Of course Obungler is making a big deal of his release in exchange for five terrorists who will return to their fighting. Both Bergdahl and Obumbler hate this country. I expect this guy to be court-martialed, dishonorably discharged, and hopefully fined all of his back-pay. The most amusing part comes when his accusers from his platoon (who also do not know how he became a POW!) are asked to testify under oath. Will they perjure themselves to pretend fiction is fact? The Kerry accusers were not under oath, but should have been. Will they risk prison to spew their personal venom? That’s a good question.
George Bush released 500 so-called terrorists because he rightly came to the conclusion that Gitmo is a monstrous distortion of our country’s rule of law and has to end. All of them will soon leave Gitmo, except for those we charge with specific crimes and bring to the US for trial and imprisonment. How can one hate the rule of law and not also hate the country that holds it dear.
On whose behalf are you attempting to circulate these half-truths? As an example, if his platoon mates are prevaricating, where will the investigators find “The Truth”? And the Kerry accusers were not put under oath lest the Junior Senator from Massachusetts might become a full capture in “Stolen Valor”.

It saddens me that we cannot welcome home an American soldier, held captive for so many years, even if he needs to be held to account, without such ugliness. Were you such a perfect soldier?
I’m sorry, Cliff, but if Flipper can’t even provide his SF180 for public perusal, why should anybody who contradicts him be forced to go under oath? The fool first claimed he threw his own medals away, then that they weren’t his medals, then they were only ribbons. He lied to get at least one of his Purple Hearts. If you’re still willin’ to believe him after all these years, I’d think you’d be willin’ to listen to the guys who served with Bergbarf. Oh, wait, they aren’t claimin’ to have all this stuff seared, seared in their minds.
I never defended Kerry or Bergdahl, they are probably both creeps. I’m just wondering how much the stories would change if the truth were required instead of tales woven by a handful of people with an axe to grind. If you are always willing to believe the disgruntled, you should be an IBM manager, people who really don’t give a shit about the truth.

Cliff – He enlisted. It was his choice to enlist. No one forced him to enlist. He knew he would prolly go to Afghanistan or Iraq. We have a volunteer Army. No one knew he was a loon until he was sent to Afghanistan. Your argument would be valid if he was drafted.
Just the opposite, Denny. We’re supposed to have a professional volunteer Army. It is incumbent on commanders to deploy people with the mental and physical capacities of professional soldiers given their assignment. The Army failed on more than this occasion to do just that in Iraq and Afghanistan. Only in a drafted Army are commanders forced to used whatever is available. If Bergdahl was getting wobbly, he should have been yanked (just like that guy who sneaked out to murder a dozen villagers, who also gave off bad vibrations). And, yes, home-schooling is always a big red flag for me.
I can understand trying to wound Kerry in a presidential race, but why beat up on this kid whose intentions were good (a volunteer after all). He may have found himself in a bad place and handled it badly, but there’s a big legal distinction between being AWOL and desertion, a distinction that was carefully defined for all of us on our first day of service by the company commander. Bergdahl was probably just AWOL and apparently he did try to escape from the Taliban. If he intended to return to the Army, he is not a deserter.
What makes no sense to me is to go AWOL in a war zone. Where can you go before the MPs or the enemy find you? It’s ridiculous and irrational. But so is war itself. What’s the point in demonizing this guy, especially before he can tell his side of the story.
What unknown facts could possibly contradict the known story? He has a history of going rover and sent his possessions home just before he disappeared. His own platoon – you know, the guys who’re closer to him than his brothers – is publicly speaking against his innocence. It’s not disgruntlement when they’re doing it after he spent five years of captivity.
The best we could assume is that ol’ boy went for a walk (off the FOB, requiring no small amount of planning and deliberation to evade security) and got captured because of it. That right there is desertion.
At worst, he attempted to defect and it bit him in the ass. That’s treason, even if it didn’t work out well for him.
Even in the best-case scenario, he could (and should) face the death penalty for his intransigence – but because the Administration spent so much time jazzing this guy up as a hero to the civilians, he’ll get away with committing some of the worst crimes a Soldier can. Hell, he’ll probably even keep his sergeant stripes, too.
If memory serves me correctly, it is the Republican controlled House that holds the purse strings of government, of which, that makes them complicit by funding the lawless traitors the Democratic Party has become.
The failure to notify Congress is a small detail, and that law may well be unconstitutional. But the stealthy way Obama handled this is clearly the opposite of his pledge for “the most transparent administration ever”, and to do operations in broad daylight. Yes, of course there are circumstances that merit secrecy and/or urgency, but this wasn’t one of them. The reason for secrecy was purely political: He knew it stank, so he didn’t tell anyone. And releasing enemy commanders while the war still rages is treason. That’s why we condemn Obama, because he’s a liar and a traitor in time of war, not because of some technical violation of a law.

I told him that our education establishment had turned our schools into socialist indoctrination centers and brainwashed students and his refutation was that the more education a person received the more likely he was to vote Dimocrat. Every time he commented I asked him why invading Libya where Qadaffy had been defanged was good and invading Iraq where we removed a brutal dictator was bad and he never would answer the question.
