Yep! At least according to this article from Bloomberg that was in the Atlanta Urinal and Constipation on Saturday.
The winter doldrums that have beleaguered the U.S. economy over the past two years may come to an end in 2016.
“Winter doldrums”? Is that an euphemism for cold winters?
The weather phenomenon known as El Niño could give the world’s largest economy a leg up in coming months as a milder winter supports growth in housing and consumer spending, according to economists at JPMorgan Chase & Co., Bank of America Corp. and Bloomberg Intelligence. The warmth released by the shift in winds could add 0.1 percent to inflation-adjusted gross domestic product in the first quarter, and 0.55 percent for the year, according to a paper issued by the International Monetary Fund earlier this year.
So, does that mean global warming is a good thing?
That would be in sharp contrast with the past two winters, when abnormally cold weather stunted first-quarter growth, with the economy even contracting at the start of 2014.
“Abnormally cold weather”? How can that be? I thought the planet was heating up. NOAA keeps telling us about the “hottest months on record” and “hottest years on record” and we have had two “abnormally cold winters”? Oh, I forgot. Global warming causes everything. I wonder if global cooling would cause abnormally hot winters? I remember people claiming that the Polar Vortex was caused by the North Pole heating up.
The effects from El Niño could allow for “generally more churn in the economy,” Michelle Meyer, deputy head of U.S. economics at Bank of America in New York, said in an interview.
“When the weather is warmer and you don’t have as much snowfall in the winter, it allows for greater construction,” she said. “And in an environment where the temperature is warmer and people are willing to be out shopping, consumer spending and restaurant sales could look stronger.”
Global warming is looking better and better.
El Niños occur when a weakening in the trade winds that usually push warm water in the equatorial Pacific to the west allows some of that water to flow east. This year’s El Niño — declared in March — is one of the three strongest since 1950, and many forecasters believe it will result in a mild winter for the northern and eastern U.S. in particular.
“Should the coming winter resemble past El Niño events, the lift to growth would likely be manifest in construction and consumer spending,” Michael Feroli, chief U.S. economist at JPMorgan in New York, wrote in a note to clients this month. His research showed the phenomenon would boost GDP by a total of 0.4 percent, with the lift to growth rates largely occurring in the first four quarters.
There you go. Global warming is good for the economy. Fire up those coal powered power plants. Tell the EPA to stuff it on their CO2 emissions policy. Tell Pope Albert I of the Church of AGW to stuff it. Same with Prince Charles. This is further proof that he is a twit, although not much was needed. I didn’t really think Diana was that hot but to prefer the skank he’s with now to her shows just how much of a booger eatin’ moh-ron he is. As for Obungler, if global warming is good for the economy, of course he’s against it. Anything that’s good for America he opposes.
We’ve been bombarded with so much hot air about climate change and global warming that I’m not surprised some places are warmer than normal.
But I’m a little skeptical about some of the voices coming out saying that for the sake of the planet, everybody in North America needs to turn off their appliances and lie down to die so that China and India and Africa can continue to burn coal.
And as for “the science is settled,” it looks to me like a memo war between opposing “experts.”
So, I think I’ll wait to see what somebody really important comes up with, somebody like a Kardashian, or maybe Alec Baldwin, or Prince Charles, or Payton Manning . . . you know, one of those superintellects who aren’t intimidated by such crackpots as Senator Inhofe or Czech President Vaclav Klaus or John Coleman (the guy who founded The Weather Channel).
I’m staring out the window at several inches of global warming right now. I just watched the weather report and they said that one storm over the weekend has made this the 4th snowiest November on record here in Chicagoland. We’re off to a good start.
According to geologists and paleontologists, the Earth’s climate has on average been warmer for the last 700 million years, punctuated by several periods of glaciation. We’re still coming out of an ice age; it’s supposed to be trending warmer — and I wish it would. Change is inevitable, and some change is good, and some change is bad. It’s best to adapt and prepare for natural variability as well as natural disasters. If we compromise the global economy pursuing these wrong-headed CO2-capping policies we’re not going to have enough money and resources left for countering and responding to real threats to the planet, like earthquakes or an asteroid impact.
The crux of the AGW fraud is that the same self-appointed sanctimonious assholes who have wasted trillions of taxpayers’ dollars trying to “control” poverty, education, the economy, the culture, and every other aspect of our lives (and have done a shitty job of it) now want to “control” the climate. Their track record shows that they are incompetent and don’t know what the hell they’re doing, and/or are corrupt as f@#k. What have they done lately to earn our trust for such a grandiose undertaking?
I read a political “fact check” earlier today about presidential candidates and where they stood on scientific ground (climate change/global warming). And right out of the gate they used Michael “discredited hockey stick dipshit” Mann as one of their divining rods as to who was on solid ground. Fail! Didn’t even need to read any further, but I did. And guess what the fine print at the end said: this is actually part of an ongoing series about climate change…..Selling an agenda as journalism.
There is a whole litany of lies and untruths coming from the AGW camp. One of them is that any warming from our current climate is going to be bad. Seriously!?! When the climate does change and it starts to get cold again, I mean really cold, then we’ll see something to get worried about.
Don’t know about anywhere else, but here in scabattle, our temps are 10F lower than they have been for YEARS now.
Methinketh me smell a financial scam in this gorbal worming BS…
Uh, again, what was RICO supposed to do?
