Catfish sent me this.
Low military pay was not mentioned in The State Of The Union speech. Just increasing the minimum wage was . . . Hamburgers or Minimum Wage.
For those fast food employees striking for $15 an hour, let’s do some math. At $15 an hour Johnny Fry-Boy would make $31,200 annually. An E1 (Private) in the military makes $18,378. An E5 (Sergeant) with 8 years of service only makes $35,067 annually. So you’re telling me, LaTisha McBurgerflipper, that you deserve as much as those young men getting shot at, deploying for months in hostile environments, and putting their collective asses on the line every day protecting you.
Here’s the deal, Baconator, you are working in a job designed for a kid in high school who is learning how to work and earning enough for gas, and hanging out with their equally goofy high school pals. If you have chosen this as your life-long profession, you have failed. If you don’t want minimum wage, don’t have minimum skills.
Update: A few people have pointed out that the military provides food, clothing, and shelter. Not bad if you are single. However, if you are married, that changes things. A married E2 is poor. I know. I was one. The military gives you Basic Allotment for Quarters which helps some. Back in 1966 it was $55 a month. If you’re married and living off base you get Commuted Rations which helps to buy groceries. Of course, now if you want to eat in the chow hall you have to pay for it or that’s how it worked back in 1966 when I attended ET School. So, a married burger flipper makes more than a married military dude for at least the first six years of his enlistment.
Those minimum wage idiots should go read what happened to the minimum wage workforce in Seattle over the last year with the cities 15 dollar an hour minimum wage. (job flight, 11k lost jobs when the ‘burbs were having record growth (53k added jobs)_ and so on)
But then the E-1 doesn’t have to look for work.
Cheers
Yep. That Sergeant can always find plenty of it.
And yes, there will be $15/hour employees at McDonalds; the two or three that keep the BurgerBot® running.
Ya, well, meet your E1 & E5 replacements: http://www.cnbc.com/2016/02/24/google-robot-is-the-end-of-manual-labor-vc.html
It ain’t just your BurgerBot®, which already exists that’s going the way of the buggy whip.
This is inarguably the finest apples to apples comparison I’ve seen and read.
Sorry, the comparison is not apples to apples at all.
Military personnel get free food, clothing, and shelter – most burger flippers do not.
Military personnel are officially on duty 24/7 – most civilians are not.
I call bullshit on the free food, clothing and shelter. I was in the service and heard that line before. Free food if you eat on base when the time is right. Free clothes? really, you count the military clothes as clothes, sure but do you want to wear jeans and a shirt when you go out? They don’t pay for that. Free shelter? I was on a submarine, if you want to live off base, it comes out of your pocket unless you get married, then they’ll give you a couple of bucks.
I’m not complaining about the conditions, just pointing out what FREE means.
Bingo!
I was a single SGT when I got out in ’14. Everything Frank said about the chow, clothes, and living quarters is true – and then some.
“Free food” is only when it’s convenient for the D-FAC to be open, and God help you if you want something that tastes good and isn’t deep-fried shit.
“Free clothes”? Drink less Kool-Aid. Seriously, dude.
“Free shelter” is a bad joke, considering the quarters they put us in tend to be substandard, *tiny*, and subject to inspection and regulation to the point that you’re not living in them, you’re simply staying in them.
“Free healthcare” is hilarious if you weren’t shot, and then it’s a tragicomedy if you were. I don’t know about you, but the military doctors I had the misfortune of dealing with were so terrible, so incompetent that they’ve inspired me to pursue a career in medicine in the hopes that I can edge those twits out of the field. If you came back from war with any sort of mental issues, that’s it – your career’s fucked, and you’re not getting anything but a boot in the ass on the way out.
I’m guessing you’re looking back with rose-tinted glasses, didn’t get out as junior enlisted and thus simply don’t remember what it’s like being PVT Schmucky stuck at the bottom, or were never in at all.
Brilliantly said.
Keep in mind it’s not the burger flippin technicians that come up with any of this they’re just the useful idiots operated by White communist men in suits utilizing Alinski’s overwhelm the system tactics to fundamentally transform America in every way. Minimum wage to me is in the same category with Redskins traditional marriage Christmas 2nd Amendment the White race and on and on it goes. What aren’t the radical socialists not trying to fundamentally transform?
We’re getting closer to that day when none of us will have jobs and won’t afford to buy anything the robots that replaced us produce.
This linked story shows what happens when libtard philosophies collide. State mandated recycling and subsidies create recycling business. Next, price paid by next step processor drops ’cause he can’t sell his end product for what he previously got. Minimum wage goes up so costs rise again, but he still has to pay state mandated prices to those who bring in material. Logic tell us that this in not “sustainable” but we all know that libtards and logic are mutually exclusive terms.

I’m being the Devil’s Advocate here:
An E-1 along with the salary gets 3 hots & a cot +free medical and dental. In addition to an exercise program (P.T.) designed to keep him or her fit as a fiddle.
It’s the “free bennies” Labowski!
3 hots and a cot? Gee, that would have been nice. A 40 hour work week would have been even nicer.
You get the meals if it’s convenient for the command, and that medical is so terrible that among the medical students I’m studying with military doctors have become proverbial for the end-state career of those of us who barely passed med school and can’t make it on the outside under their own merits.
That, of course, assumes the command even lets you see a doctor. They don’t have to prohibit it; they just have to make it so you need to jump through enough hoops that it’s practically impossible to get through for anything short of life-threatening illness or injury.
Except for when said “Baconator” employee has been replaced by cheap H-1B labor, which was also trained by now “Baconator” employee, right?
But , but , but where`s the empathy for these down trodden people who labor so hard for the benefit of their Republican overlord`s…BWAHAHAHA!
Apparently even knowing what they sell is not a job requirement…….I stopped at a local McDonald`s two weeks back because they were celebrating the 40 year anniversary of their signature sandwich the Egg Mc muffin
The bimbo at the order window said they no longer offered that sandwich…..I said excuse me you have a banner out front promoting the 40 year celebration & it is also on your menu selection board under the all day breakfast menu.
she was adamant , Nope! they did not offer that sandwich anymore & suggested I get a burrito.
Being the agitator I am , I parked & went in to see the manager “Who I knew” to inform her I was unable to join in the Egg McMuffin celebration since they no longer offered the sandwich & they should take the banner down.
I then told her what the window bimbohad said. Needless to say she immediately corrected the problem & told me the girl in question was a Penn State College Behrend Campus student who was working part time.
I did not realize they had a special Ed class at that college.
Was the order window bimbo in question mestizos or, perhaps a steezer groupie?
I do not know. but she had braided armpits …I think she was a recent Polish immigrant going to college here .
Be so lucky with an Eastern Bloc gal. They do not come here instead of prior approved third-world shitholes. Nothing new. You know it and, so do I.
Look, you can either complain that min-wagers are working jobs not meant to be “real” jobs, or you can brag about how back in the day you paid your own way through college “working a minimum wage job on the side.” Not both.
Where is this BS coming from that bottom-rung jobs aren’t meant to support you? A job, ANY job, is supposed to be worth the effort of getting and keeping it. Back in 69, a minimum wage salary was the equivalent of $12 an hour today!
But thanks to our screwed up government economic policy, that becomes a bigger and bigger joke. Fiat inflation, taxation, regulation, and countless other forces beyond most people’s full comprehension much less their control whittle away at every paycheck from both ends…. Millions are waiting tables and scrubbing toilets for less and less actual pay every week.
And when they complain, while they’re struggling to climb out of the ever-deeper hole our economy is sinking into, the only thing too many conservatives do is lounge on the side of the pit and give technically true and practically useless advice like “why don’t you improve yourself?”
News flash, Boomers: if you’re desperately fighting to keep the alligators off your ass, it’s kind of difficult to take time to drain the swamp.
How pissed would you be if you were dangling from the bottom rung, and the spudbuckers whose toilets you scrubbed and floors you mopped for an ever-shrinking paycheck did nothing but tell you how lazy you were, and that you needed to lift yourself up by your bootstraps like they did (never)?
It’s small wonder most millennials would sooner shove a Boomer in front of a bus than vote for them.
Dude. A minimum wage job is an entry level job. It’s where you learn skills like getting to work on time. It’s not meant to be a career. Yeah. I worked a minimum wage while going to college. I delivered flowers. I also had a side job delivering Where Magazine on the weekends. I also stayed in the Navy Reserve to get money for going to meetings. I certainly did not expect to do any of that stuff as a career.
Only in America ……
I know it is a broken record but you & I & others like us worked our way up the ladder to some form of success often taking on jobs or sometimes multiple jobs which today are beneath the level of acceptability for the young first timers in the workforce.
It is amazing these people who despise us for being successful & demand higher compensation for the entry jobs which they somehow believe merit the same equality as positions which required education & years of work & training to achieve.
They hate for what we have achieved & accuse us having no empathy for the downtrodden underclass they depict themselves to be. They choose instead to demand they be accorded a living wage which is really just a form of welfare.
What is hard for me to understand is the opportunities available today in education or the number of entry level jobs they have to choose from exceed by far what was available for our generation.
We traveled a proven road to success, one which required hard work , education & a willingness to accept whatever jobs we could find as we climbed that ladder to success. Unfortunately today`s generation for the most part believe that path is not politically correct or worthy enough. What it really means is they are too lazy & think they are entitled to what we have achieved for free.
Only in America , the land of free choice & the opportunity to succeed which attracted so many immigrants who made this country the greatest most powerful country to have ever existed in one generation have abandoned the principles & desire to achieve what their ancestors were able to provide for them.
I’m 28, and am presently at the ‘minimum wage’ echelon of employment (because civilians are idiots and think being an NCO in the Army doesn’t translate to anything in the real world, but I digress). At this point, I’ve yet to make use of my GI Bill; I’m saving that for more expensive schools later on in my education.
I’m not sitting around complaining about how terrible things are for me. I’m studying my ass off to earn that better job. It’s not easy, sure, but it’s not impossible by any stretch of the imagination. Hell’s bells, you can get the IRS to pay you back the cost of tuition (up to 2500 a year for up to four years) through the DREAM Act, which is enough to get you a certification at a community college, and then of course the federal government provides plenty of financial aid. If the Millennials can’t figure out how to make do with that, then they deserve to scrub toilets and wait tables for the rest of their lives.
The more I put my nose to the grindstone, the more I realize how baseless this whining really is. I’m in the thick of this alleged swamp, and those alligators are movin’ awfully slowly and looking a hell of a lot like regular old logs. Just because this is the first time a kid’s encountering the real world and discovering not everything’s spoon-fed to him doesn’t mean he’s right when he says it’s impossible. It means he’s an idiot who doesn’t know how to use Google and lives beyond his means.
