In my opinion this is the best thing The Doors ever did. I’m posting the studio version because the guitar solo is so much better with the tracking and overdubs.

Oh man, so true. There were many blurry nights spent over a pool table prior the smoking bans at a little VFW in Dearbornistan, jamming that, Peace Frog, and among other things, War Pigs, on the jukebox.
During the quiet part of the song, Jim gets annoyed with the audience and screams at them to shut up. Needless to say, the NYC crowd doesn’t take kindly to it. LOL.
My taste in music was formed by my mother. She was
first and foremost a Bobby Soxer. She was also addicted
to classic country, fifties rock, rockabilly, contemporary
pop, classical, jazz, big band and swing. She also loved
the black genres like R&B and soul. I grew up with
Merle haggard, Hank Williams, Benny Goodman, the
Ink Spots, Mills Brothers, Booker T, Otis Redding, etc.
She absolutely loved The Doors, especially Light My Fire.
There are very few absolute geniuses in the field of music.
Mozart was one. A small number of people in Jazz (like
Dave Brubeck,) Swing (like Benny Goodman and Glenn
Miller,) and a man who stood alone in rock: (Jim Morrison.)
Morrison’s shit was on orders of magnitude higher than
all but the greatest classical artists. The only artist in the
modern world was Frank Zappa, and this is only because
he was a Maverick who did things HIS way!

One of my favorite Doors tunes. The Strange Days LP I would consider their 2nd best, after their legendary debut of course.
There is an exceptional live version of When The Music’s Over, recorded at NYC’s Felt Forum in 1970:

Love that song, I like “The End” as well. Some of their best. Thanks for the post Denny.
