RIP Gary Richrath. Saw REO live. Once back in the late 70’s. The second time was after a Braves game. The guitar player they hired to replace Richrath after kicking him out of the band wasn’t anywhere near as good as Gary.

I used to play this real loud when I lived in my first apartment. One of my neighbors complained to the apartment manager on multiple occasions. BTW, that’s Boots Randolph on Sax.

  1. Saw Boots at his club in Nashville back in the 1970’s. He, Floyd Cramer, and Chet Atkins, defined the Nashville sound back then.

  2. The Reo Speed Wagon is one of the reasons I ruined my knees being a dance machine way back when young & foolish, not sure it was worth it but……..Damn it was fun!

  3. R.I.P. Gary Richrath. He was the “Ace Frehley” of REO: Chuck Berry licks flashily rendered on a Les Paul, with flair and élan. Those were the days! There’s nothing like it today. The band did several interpretations of this tune; this version with saxophone evokes Bob Seger.. Americana at its finest. Thanks.
