Let’s speak about the right to vote. The problem is not that it was given to women. The problem is to which citizen it is given. Everybody should be allowed to vote, of course. But then some people should be allowed more than one vote, according to IQ, level of education, taxes paid, valuable occupation, service to the country, and so on….
Nevil Shute has written an interesting, futuristic book about this, “In The Wet” where he mentioned multiple votes earned by merit.

Mark Twain wrote a similar proposal in an essay along very much the same vein. More votes for college, more for taxes paid, more for property. It was clear that even in his time stupid people were slewing the vote. It was easy to buy votes then but it was harder to use taxpayer money than it is now.

I would expect Democrats to loudly object to Obama takes us into shooting wars without any input from Congress. This is spiritually wrong and of course illegal (Denny mentions the War Powers Act). So why is it just Republicans that complain? As Denny notes, we’re observing a strange role reversal.
I feel like an idiot when I expect leaders to stand by their principles and their campaign promises. Apparently only naive fools expect integrity in government; it’s only about power, and the path to power is working the crowd and saying whatever you need to say to keep the herd in place.
