Lou Reed died over the weekend. His biggest hit was Walk on the Wild Side, but for me his best song was Sweet Jane, and here is the best version of it. I really love the intro and the guitar work on this version. Doing it today instead of saving it for Sunday Metal.
Yeah, the part where the intro starts winding down (3:00) and then rolls over into that fabulous Sweet Jane riff at about 3:20 is forever seared into my memory.
Duh-Duh-DUH, duh-duh-da-duh. That’s gotta be about the most famous riff in rock history.
This is one of my 10 albums while stranded on a deserted island.
Thanx for the great tunes when I was a teenager in the early 70’s Lou.
I listened to them for long afterwards too.
Rock and roll god, a favorite. Too bad he got the chinese liver…
I’m sorry that he passed on but his music never resonated with me.
I owned every album and listened to them quite a bit. This was one of the best. He didn’t have a great voice but it was perfect for most of his songs. His lyrics were the best. While he didn’t actually play guitar on this version of the song, he did on most others and he was very good.
The fact that he didn’t die during his youth from his many indiscretions was amazing in itself.
