Deaf people watching the Nelson Mandela memorial were bemused and shocked by a “fake” sign language interpreter on stage whose gestures were unintelligible, activists said Wednesday.
The interpreter was watched by millions as he stood beside speakers at the event including President Barack Obama.
Hundreds of people took to social media to express their anger at the interpreter’s gestures, and several deaf groups confirmed his signing did not reflect the comments being made to honor the anti-apartheid icon.

Well, it fits right in with the carnival atmosphere of this whole Necklace Nelson lalapalooza. People wearing oversized clown glasses, yellow t-shirts, laughing and joking , (thank you Barak) and a general
feeling of mirth and narcissism. I always considered the deceased a terrorist but a sense of decorum is never inappropriate at a funeral.

Yes, there is a sign language sign for “bullshit,” although it’s easier to demonstrate than describe in words. Basically, you hold both arms in front of you, with one forearm on top of the other forearm. The hand on top makes “horns” by extending your index and pinkie fingers (sort of like the U of Texas “hook ’em horns gesture). The hand on the bottom alternately opens and closes, like the “stuff” is coming out of the other end of the bull. You can probably find this sign on Youtube.
