Funny that you mention Veterinary services. I saw a report on the Socialized Medicine in Canada. You remember Canada? The place where it takes so long to get a Cat Scan that patients cross into the U.S. for them. Where it takes so long to see a specialist they give up and seek help here. Where they have a lottery to get on the Doctor’s patient lists. Yes, that Canada. Well, it turns out that Vets don’t fall under the government run health care system. They are free to practice on their patients any way they choose. It is easier to get your cat a cat scan than it is to get one for your self. Dog breaks a leg? Same day surgery. No waiting, no hassle, no rationing, and no government interference.
In the case of Cat Scan machines it is the government that sets the price of the scan. It is low, barely high enough to cover its cost. If you can’t recoup your investment on a very pricey machine, why would you invest a million dollars or more on it. Vets don’t face the government price controls so they can charge a fair market price on the scan. Since they see a profit it makes sense to invest in the machines. There are, most likely, more human Cat Scan units in human hospital than in Veterinary hospitals, but that may change if the system does not get its head out of its ass. I pity the Canadians when it gets as bad here as it is in Canada. They can join us when we have to fly to the Caribbean for our annual cancer screening cat scans.
