Pete Seeger died yesterday. Pardon me while I do not mourn his death. Yeah, he was a good folk singer, but he was also a rabid rat bastard commie who supported Stalin. Like many US rat bastard commies back then, he was against WWII until Hitler attacked the Soviet Union.
I will not miss him.

Good riddance. It is very easy to write lyrics or speeches for lofty liberal causes. It sounds nice but real life is more complex and less poetic. Simplistic slogans, dilettantish abstractions, pseudointellectual “isms,” and self-serving affectations are so trite and cliché in this day and age. But each generation has to learn for itself the hard way.
How many innocent millions have had their lives destroyed so that others could feel good about themselves? One definition of a liberal is that he never looks in the rearview mirror. And history keeps repeating itself.
Excellent comment, I”m so sick of feel-good bumper sticker jingoism that I want to buy a 1969 Olds Vista Cruiser and attach a cowcatcher on the front, and ram every car with a co-exist sticker, or a sticker postulating if the air force had to hold a bake sale to buy a missile, etc.

As an aficionado of folk music and a half assed banjo player, I could not stand Pete Seeger. He might have been a worse singer than Bob Dylan (is that possible) and his banjo playing was, at best, ho hum. His politics sucked too. I did go to a Arlo Guthrie concert once that Pete was at. But of course he had to preach communism to the zombies. The only good part is that when he was preaching, he wasn’t singing. Arlo I liked.
I went to a Peter, Paul, and Mary concert in the 70’s (I got in free. I wouldn’t have paid to see them.) and Mary Travers had to talk about her rat bastard commie views and trying to change the politics of her daughter’s husband who was a Republican. I wanted to stand up and yell, “Shut up and sing! I didn’t come here to listen to the Communist Manifesto!” I never really liked them, but I did teach myself how to fingerpick by listening to Peter Yarrow’s guitar work.
What’s really hard to understand is all of these rich people preaching communism or socialism. They’re too stupid to realize that if they got the society they wanted, they would be poor just like the rest of society. The entertainers, if approved by the state, would still have a pretty good living, but billionaires like Ted Turner and Warren Buffet would have their wealth seized “for the good of society”. Many of them would be executed or sent off to reeducation camps.
Joan Baez is just as bad, but at least she can sing pretty good.
Pete Seeger has assumed room temperature…that is until they put him in a hole in the ground & he will then be in the vanguard of the Commie weathermen to be able to sense immediate global warming or cooling. Good F-ing place for him.
