Global Warming In Atlanta

Well, we got about an inch of global warming here at GOC Central. That’s all it took to pretty much shut down Atlanta. My friend Michael took six hours to get home from work yesterday. My cleaning lady called me last night to ask me if she could come tomorrow instead of today. Ooops! She just called to put me off until Friday. That means my house will be nice and clean when my sister and bil come on Saturday. My cleaning lady lives up in Bartow County which got more snow than we did here in Beautiful Dunwoody. I didn’t get my paper this morning. One reason I don’t tip my paper guy. Deliver it everyday like I pay for and I would consider it. He misses too many days.

Traffic jams abounded. A baby was born in one on I-285. The local CBS affiliate preempted an NCIS rerun to cover the “snow storm”. Not much of a snow storm. They should have preempted the SOTU speech by Jug Hussein Ears Downgrade as well since it was nothing more than a campaign speech masquerading as a SOTU speech.

No. I didn’t watch him read the words, written by someone else, off his trusty TelePrompTer. I cannot stand looking at him or hearing his voice. I truly hate the man for what he is doing to my beloved country. Everyday he is in office, he makes Chimpy McHalliburton Bushitler look better and better.

How do you uninformed voters like Hope and Change now? As for you stupid racist blacks, who vote skin color, hows that working our for you? The demographic hit the worst by Obungler and his policies are black males. The unemployment numbers for them are staggering as is the number of blacks participating in the workforce which has plummeted. You booger eatin’ moh-rons did much better under the racist Republicans Reagan and both Bushes. But you got a brutha in the White House so that’s all that counts.

And now Obumbler and the Dimocrats are gonna wage war on black teenagers by raising the minimum wage. Go ahead Dimocrats! Kill all of those entry level jobs. Like I always say, Dimocrats love the poor since they create so many of them. I read a great line in the comments on another post by formerlib: One definition of a liberal is that he never looks in the rearview mirror. And history keeps repeating itself.

But I digress.

Atlanta is a southern city. It doesn’t take much snow to bring it to its knees. The Yankee transplants blame the southerners for not knowing how to drive on snow. Unfortunately it’s a lot of those Yankee transplants who think they can drive on snow who cause a lot of the accidents.

Schools were closed. Jeebus! When I was growing up in Webster Groves, Missouri (a suburb of St. Louis) this would have been nothing. In the thirteen years (K-12) I attended school, from Goodall Elementary to Hixson Junior High to Webster Groves Senior High, I only remember schools being closed twice. When I was a kid, I had to walk three miles to school in a foot of snow, uphill, both ways. The only schools that had school buses were the Catholic schools. We public school students had to walk or ride our bikes or get a ride with our parents or get a ride with parents of other kids. We got a bunch of pussies nowadays.

It sure is purty outside with all of the snow. I know some people who would disagree. It sure is nice being retired. I’ll mark my tenth anniversary in October of this year.

Time flies when you’re having fun.

  1. Glad you’re OK, Denny. I figured since you’re retired that you didn’t venture out into what became a massive CF. The Weather Channel, when it isn’t preaching about man-made global warming, has been almost nonstop about Atlanta over the past 24 hours. I perused the pix on the AJC website today and was amazed. With all TWC’s warnings, why didn’t Atlanta schools cancel? Hell, TWC is _based_ in Atlanta, for God’s sake. Hang in there; the wine cellar is stocked, right? cheers chuck PS —5°F Monday night up here in Rapid City; 40kt wind gusts this past weekend.

  2. Columbia SC closed its schools yesterday and today, even though the storm didn’t arrive until last night. (It was supposed to arrive at noon.) We are farther east than Atlanta, but our school districts decided discretion was called for (as did the school districts in Raleigh NC.)

  3. Boy are you right about the Northerners down here! This is why common courtesy driving is practically gone. All the Yankees have taught these kids to care about themselves only! They are flying all over the road leaving havoc behind them. Then they blame us for not knowing how to drive! I blame the Yankees for all of this mess!!

  4. It sure is purty outside with all of the snow. I know some people who would disagree. It sure is nice being retired.

Also it’s quiet. We had four tenths of an inch of sleet a few weeks back…
no mail, ups or fed ex trucks for three days! Also retired 14 years come May.

  5. Do not conflate climate change with unusual cold weather. Right now the West is suffering a drought due to a high pressure ridge sitting off the coast and acting like a tallinvisible mountain range. The upshot to all this is that the storms that CA, OR and WA are supposed to get are going up to Canada and Alaska and the coming around to the plains a nd Midwest pushing the Artic air down to the Southern tiers and the East Coast.

So what is causing that pesky high ridge to keep so continuously there? Could be warmer ocean temperatures in the Pacific. And thus this could be a manifestation of not so nice things to come due to global temperatures rising. Oceans rule the planet so don’t let them heat up please.

    • Actually, that big ball of fire up in the sky rules the planet. And as I pointed out to the resident liberal on this site that the AGW crowd sez every record high temperature is proof of global warming. What’s sauce for the goose … and all of that shit. Now, they’re claiming that every record cold temperature is a result of global warming. To people like you, everything is proof of global warming. You fanatics predict every year that we will have a record hurricane season. We haven’t. AGW is bullshit. Pure and simple bullshit.

    • Well, Rose, I’m sure that since the Polar Ice Caps are melting and calving all them-there icebergs, that’s just Ma Nature’s way of coolin’ the oceans, same as Denny’d dump an ice cube or two in his scotch. I guess that any warming of the oceans couldn’t possibly be caused by the new volcanoes being formed near Krakatoa and other parts of the sea bed. And how many studies can tell us whether or not any changes in the earth’s magnetic field affect how much of the sun’s rays in their full spectrum are actually reaching us? But all that concern about “Globull Warmening” has sure made some money for Algore, hasn’t it?

    • Rose….
At the same time global warming nuts were feeling guilty & blaming man for any rise in temperature however minute it might have been , the planet Mars was also having having global warming of its polar snow/icecaps. This alone should cause anyone to recognize the so-called problem is solar & something Mankind is not resp0osible for.
Unless you are dumber then a box of rocks ,having pointed this out to you should have a positive effect to stimulate your common sense.
Oh , the fact we have entered into a period of climate cooling due to the suns lower radiant energy output is also important.

  6. Ill bet there is not one set of studded snow tires in the whole region. Suv’s don’t handle for crap in the snow when they are sporting a set of 22’s. Even front wheel drive sucks once you start the wheels start spinning. I learned to drive on snow while stationed on Hokkaido in the 60’s, snow tires on all four and make slow but steady progress. The flatlanders are fun to watch though.

    • I took my drivers license test when I was 16 in a blizzard in Independence, MO. on my Bday way back in 1973. My Bday is Jan. 19th. I recall the test instructor was quite nervous as we drove. He must’ve had balls like a bull but I passed and drove in many winter storms after that. Way back when govt. offices DIDN’T CLOSE for bad weather!!!

  7. You walked? When I was a boy I had to tunnel 10 miles through 10 feet of snow, uphill both ways–and that was if it was an easy winter! Our school closed less often than 7-11! And schools didn’t close just because it was a little cold–you toughed it out!

  8. I remember my dad hitching the horses to the manure wagon that had runners in place of the wheels. He then put horse blankets in the wagon for me and my 5 siblings, one to get on and one to get under. The horses took us the mile we usually walked to the schoolhouse, then dad turned the horses toward home and got under the blanket. When the horses stopped he got the wagon out of the way, unhitched the horses, opened the barn and led them back inside where the farm animals were kept during the Winter. During a blizzard one Winter in South Eastern North Dakota back in the 40’s – 50’s.

  9. I lived across the street from my grade school, so snow days were few and far between. My house had a brick sidewalk on a corner property, though, so shoveling was an adventure. My current abode is in the middle of the block and I paid good money for a flat, even concrete sidewalk. Snow clearance is a push broom now.

    Stay warm, all.
