It’s bloody cold outside! It’s colder today in Atlanta than it is in Denver. Oh. That’s right. Unseasonably cold weather is evidence of global warming.
Thanks to George for the graphic.
North Dakota Weather Report. Also from George and Ron, who’s freezing on the Gulf Coast.

Was chatting with family up in Yellowknife yesterday: -30F air temp, -51F with the wind. Pretty much time for two sweaters, and a warm parka.
Cheers
…and we complain about a measly -10 or so, probably would be like a sauna to them!
Ah yes, the road sign caught in an ice storm from good ‘ol Hell, Michigan.
AKA Detroit? or are there two?
Dont worry about us in Phoenix we suffered through the 70+ degree day today!
I know Greg, I know. It’s a DRY heat! My buddy Cliff in Las Vegas is always calling me to rub in the fact that when we are at 0 or below he is in the balmy 70’s. I think I’ll ski down to the mail box and see if my new polypropylene long johns have arrived.
Denny, you better put another blanket on the bed tonight, I hear that you can expect a high tomorrow of +9 F. It is going to snow tonight so our high temp tomorrow will be warmer than yours.
That is some funny shit. I wonder if whiskey was involved in the production of that PSA.
The “warmers” complain how we note every cold spell. Well, if they weren’t so offensively pushing their warming philosophy we wouldn’t be so defensive.
As we all know, this whole warming game is designed to exert more control over us.
We note every cold spell because they note every warm spell. Sauce for the goose and all that.
Al Sharpton Demonstrates He’s Clueless About Global Warming:
http://www.truthrevolt.org/news/al-sharpton-demonstrates-hes-clueless-about-global-warming
The winters in North Dakota are only rivaled by the winters in north central Montana, where my wife and I were raised. My wife talked with her friend since childhood who lives in Havre, Montana Saturday evening. The Temp there was minus 30 and supposed to get even colder by midnight.
In the winter, the only thing between that part of the country and the North Pole is a barbed wire fence, and it is tramped down.
It would be interesting to see how Pope AlGore would take being just a couple of days there now. But, then when he lives in South Carolina, he knows all about the temps up on both sides of the Canadian border. Don’t believe it? Just ask him. He will set you straight.
And, Willie, Al Not-So-Sharpton is clueless about just about anything and everything anyone is talking about.
Last weekend it was so cold it froze the nuts off a plow! That’s old and not too funny but it was cold. Supposed to get to -20 tonight and then start to warm up. In my favorite dream Al Gore is alone on a gravel road with a flat tire on a night like this! Man, I’d pay good money to see that happen!
Do you guys not know what caused the polar vortex to move south? Or even how weather patterns work?
At the same time Chicago was dipping into -16 ( a new record), the temp in Barrow, Alaska (furthest north city in NA, north of Artic Circle) was only -5 degrees, when the average low there is -19.5
The warm air current moved over the artic and pushed the cold artic air south, freezing our butts off.
A big concern among climate change activists is the melting of polar glaciers and icecaps over time (which is happening now), which makes occurrences like this pretty alarming.
This coming after november was the warmest ever novermber on record (despite the US being colder than average): http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/12/131220-november-temperature-hottest-record-climate-science/
And apparently it’s so warm in Siberia that it’s raining in December and there isn’t any snow on the ground.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2525993/What-happened-Siberia-Russian-region-famous-cold-experiences-freak-warm-weather-December-time-living-memory.html
Have to remember that weather patterns are global, and not limited to what’s outside your front door.
Robin – How does that AGW Kool-aid taste? Global warming causes everything. Hot weather? Global warming. Cold weather? Global warming. Droughts? Global warming. Record rain? Global warming. More storms? Global warming. Less storms? Global warming. Global warming. Is there anything it can’t do? Do you realize that there has been no appreciable warming for the last 15 years? Did you know that the planet was warmer in the 11th Century than it is now? Greenland used to be green. It was warmer there back then than it is now. Then the Little Ice Age occurred and the settlers there could no longer grow forage crops for their animals. Food and supplies had to be imported.
Have to remember that weather patterns are global, and not limited to what’s outside your front door. Unless it is warm outside your front door and then you believers cry, “Global warming!” If you guys can use anecdotal evidence to prove AGW, than those of us who live in reality rather than Liberal Land, can use anecdotal evidence to disprove global warming. Sauce for the goose and all that.
I know. You have a masters degree. More education makes you more likely to vote for Dimocrats and believe in the religion of AGW. Keep the faith, true believer! Rather, more socialist brainwashing makes you more likely to vote for Dimocrats and believe in the religion of AGW. A mind is a terrible thing to waste young Robin.
No appreciable warming, despite November being the “warmest November on record”. For the WHOLE EARTH.
You completely fail to acknowledge the fact that our cold is caused by warm air over the Arctic Circle. (And Siberia)
The “medieval warming period” was a localized phenomena that only affected the North Atlantic and Northern Europe (and not by so much), and global temperatures actually COOLED during that time. The current era we live in is in fact hotter than the “Medieval Warm Period”
It’s just as much as case of cherry picking as you walking outside your front door and being like “it’s cold, so much for AGW”.
Also, every “study” i could find relating to Greenland surface temperature was by organizations backed by fossil fuel industries.
The ” Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and Global Change” is actually just one family who have arguing that increasing carbon emissions is good for humanity due to increased agricultural yields.
I’ll just sit back and enjoy the ludicrous argument is the reason that 97% of scientists support AGW is not because the data supports the findings, but because there is a huge cabal and conspiracy to fund their “lavish” lifestyles and go to AGW conferences in Finland or something.
To have an opinion that worldwide emissions and pollution has ZERO effect on the planet is kinda silly to me.
it’s not like leaving your car running in a garage is good for you, even if carbon monoxide wasn’t poisonous. Just imagine the Earth is one giant garage.
Robin – Oh noes! It’s the eeevil oil companies. I’ll bet the Koch brothers were involved as well. ”
I just knew that the record cold weather would somehow be blamed on global warming and right on schedule it was. I guess when we have global cooling it will lead to warmer temperatures. That 97% of scientists stat is bogus. Most of those scientists are not even climatologists.
Warmest November? Do you know how many records in the South were shattered in November? We had the coldest Thanksgiving in Atlanta in over 100 years.
Ten years from now you’re gonna look back and see just how scammed you were by the AGW bullshit. Back in the early 70’s all the “scientists” claimed we were headed into global cooling. http://denisdutton.com/cooling_world.htm
You’re a sucker Robin.
Warmest November on Earth, not just Atlanta. Localized weather will be subject to localized weather patterns, you have to look at it on a global scale.
Read the links I posted.
I’m not a sucker, what am I on the hook for? Thinking that a hummer is worse for the environment than bicycling? That’s just common sense.
It’s you who’s got your head in the sand.
There has been no appreciable warming in the last fifteen years.
Also, I don’t necessarily think that oil companies are “eeeeevill” but they do have a clear and easily definable motivation. Their corporations. It’s Continued future profit from using fossil fuel resources.
So if they support something it’s easy to see that is something that supports their primary motivation, and immediately calls into question the studies bias.
As for the scientists? What’s their motivation to fabricate any of this? Research grants? Global Panic? Those are pennies compared to Fossil Fuel companies.
How would pull off a cabal of fraud with nearly ALL climatoligists across nations, languages, and political differences through PEER REVIEWED JOURNALS to “pull one over” on the world about AGW? For what gain?
It just doesn’t pass the razor test.
And if you bring up “man it sure is cold in Atlanta” one more time, I’m done.
I’ve said multiple times it’s cold in Atlanta because it’s absurdly hot in the artic circle and Siberia for the season.
Robin – Don’t tell me. You are against fracking, you think genetically modified plants are evil, and vaccines cause autism.
AGW is big business. Look at how much Pope Albert I of the Church of AGW has made with his carbon credits scam. Meanwhile, he uses more energy in his mansion in Tennessee in one month than a family of four uses in a year. I’ll take AGW seriously when the leaders of the movement do so by changing their lavish lifestyles. Yannow, like flying their private jets to all of those AGW meetings. What’s in it for them? Simple. Redistribution of wealth from rich industrial nations to poor nations. It’s a scam Robin and you have fallen for it hook, line, and sinker.
I’ve got some oceanfront property in Kansas that I’d like to sell you.
Actually, I don’t give a crap about GMO’s (we’ve been doing it with inbreeding for 1000 years). I’m wary of splicing sharks with corn, but only because I’ve seen too many sci-fi movies.
Vaccines don’t cause autism. People who think so are dangerous. I’m not sure how this ended up in your “liberal” view basket to throw at me, because these people are idiots. (Michelle Bachmann especially).
How in the world is AGW “big business” when compared directly to its primary opponent, the fossil fuel industry, literally the biggest business in the world?
In what world does your “theory” even pass the smell test?
“Redistribution of wealth from rich nations to poorer nations”, how does this even make sense to you?
1. the majority of scientists are members of rich nations, and have no ties to poorer nations
2. A common (and valid) complaint of AGW policies, such as the Kyoto Protocol, is that it unfairly hampers the development of poorer nations that have yet to go through their heavy industrialization and manufacturing period of their economies such as the Western nations did between 1880-1970.
^^^ so how does the “Cult of AGW” redistribute wealth to the poorer nations again?
Why is it so hot on Venus again? Oh yeah, CO2 atmosphere. Greenhouse gases. Can melt lead on the surface.
Actually, we’ve been doing GMO for about 50,000 years. Corn was originally a weed. I’m glad that you have not fallen for that hoax. Same as vaccines causing autism. We got that from that noted scientist Jenny McCarthy. But, the same people who believe in that junk science are the same people who believe in the junk science of AGW. Michael Mann’s hockey stick has been proven to be false. There has been no appreciable warming in the last fifteen years. The science has not been settled, even though you claim it has. Why don’t the people who claim there is AGW release their raw data? Why did the emails from Penn State and the British folks talk about “hiding the decline”? Twelve years ago Pope Albert I of the Church of AGW said that we would be past the point of no return in ten years. Hasn’t happened. It’s a scam. 20 years from now, you’ll realize you’ve been duped by the enviro-wackos. Or maybe you’ll still believe it as we cool. The biggest factor in our climate is that big yellow ball up in the sky. BTW, many scientists believe that CO2 is actually a trailing factor and not a leading factor.
Denny,
If 20 years from now, the overwhelming consensus of the scientific community of today is proven wrong in peer reviewed scientific study, that’s life. That’s science. It happened in the 70’s with the galactic expansion/shrinking thing.
However, what it is NOT, is proof of some worldwide AGW hoax or conspiracy.
I can accept that the current theories can be proven wrong (that is the very nature of the scientific method)
I cannot accept that scientists are magically all getting along to work together to purposefully dupe people for some arbitrary goal that doesn’t make any damn sense. That is conservative tin-hat thinking and I will have none of it.
The “hide the decline” was taken out of context. It does not refer to temperatures.
The decline they were talking about is called the Divergence problem in dendroclimatology. This is the technique of using tree ring cores to determine historical temperatures.
Problem is, they sometimes don’t match up with thermometer measured temperatures that have been recorded in recent years. This is what that email was referring to. Tree rings showed a decline in temperatures that they knew to be false from their own measurements (1998 was the warmest year on record to that point).
This calls into question a lot of historical dendroclimatology data (it shows strong correlation with thermometers until about 1960) but does NOT disprove the recent warming trend.
Obviously, I won’t change your mind on any of this stuff…
But being as that I’ve learned about dendroclimatology and its divergence problem for you today, hopefully you’ll pick up some stuff too.
Also, one last thing.
Scientists are a contrary type of people.
They publish in peer reviewed journals and put their stuff out there to be shot full of holes by the entire scientific community. Which happens… a lot.
So you would think, if AGW were an outright LIE, that plenty of scientists wouldn’t want the fame of blowing holes through it? And that more would follow suit?
From 2012 to 2013, there were over 2000 peer reviewed articles on Climate. 1 author rejected AGW. 1.
The silliest thing about the “AGW is a Hoax” theory is the necessity of people with different views, languages, politics, and who DIRECTLY COMPETE WITH EACH OTHER to all be “in on the conspiracy”
