Home Again

I made it home OK. I even got home in time to watch both football games. It’s been a long time since the top seeds in both conferences won their playoff games and got to the Super Bowl. This should be a good game. The top offense (Broncos) gets to play the top defense (Seahawks).

I’m beat. These trips take a lot out of me. I went to bed last night and slept for ten hours. Got up, ate some breakfast, read the first section of the newspaper, and then slept another three hours. Hopefully, I’ll be back to what passes for normal by tomorrow.

Time to catch up with what’s going on.

Update: I just heard from the guy who does the Shepherd crip trips and he did not have enough people signed up so that trip was canceled this year. Ryan, Sherry, and I didn’t sign up because we didn’t like the place where we stayed last year. It’s a good thing I’ve got this Challenge Aspen camp to go to every year.

  1. You’re beat after travelling a thousand miles and skiing for 10 days at your elderly stage of life?????

You gotta accept (as I do) the fact that old age means sitting in a comfortable chair, sipping wine and watching porn.

Plus there’s virtually no chance of breaking your arm or leg sliding down a slippery slope.

  2. You must be tired. Although it’s Payton Manning, he plays for the Broncos now! Glad I’m not the only one who forgets that!!

  3. Glad you made it home safely. Sounds like you had a good time. More power to you for being able to get around an enjoy life even though you have a few handicaps. As far as foot ball goes, not my thing, I am a Cubs fan!

  4. I hope your persistent pain will be controlled with proper medication and your anxiety attacks will recede. You did wonderfully well on that skiing trip in spite of it all. I was a bit anxious myself and praying that you would remain in good form from start to finish. Have a good rest, Denny. And all of us will rest better too now that you’re safely home, in your own bed.

    • Nope. I just told the organizer that I skied real well and thanked him again for the down vest he gave me and that I used it on the trip. He mentioned in passing that the trip was canceled because only two people signed up. No guilt was involved. He doesn’t make much if any money on these trips. For him, it’s a labor of love and he got into it because his wife could no longer stand up ski and is now an adaptive skier. He is one of the nicest men I have ever met.

    • As Jack London once said, “The purpose of life is to live, not to exist.” If you think I’m an inspiration. you should see Cindy, the cute little quad I’ve gone scuba diving with. She needs two divers to dive with her since she is pretty much helpless in the water. That takes a lot of faith and confidence in your dive buddies (her level of SCI requires two HSA certified dive buddies) and a lot of guts. HSA = Handicapped Scuba Association I don’t know if I would have that level of faith and confidence if I had her level of SCI. She’s an inspiration to me. She does a lot of traveling in her condition which is another inspiration to me. She’s also started a foundation Dreams of Recovery to help other people with her condition to get additional physical therapy.

  5. Happy to hear you made it home okay. Probably just as well you ain’t gonna overdo things by trying another road trip too soon.
Now, if only my 49ers had won…

    • You mean the San Franfreakshow sixty-niners? Like the coach, like a lot of the players, hate the venue, but not because of its location, beauty, or history. Rather for its becoming the symbol of perversion in America.

        • Hey, JeremyR, I can’t argue with you, but I’ve been a fan since the days of Y. A. Title, R. C. Owens and Joe The Jet. You don’t know how cold a game can seem ’til you sit for hours in Kezar Stadium when the fog is so thick you can’t even see the seagull that dumped on you. Ain’t nothin’ gonna get me to go back to the Bay Area again, but I still love listening to games on the radio.

          • I’m not stuck on any one team. They all have jerks. In the case of SF, I used to like them, but the homosexual agenda and especially San Fran Nan edged them off my like list. I think Kapernick is a good QB, and he has some of hte best receivers out there. good coaches, all wasted because of a world class ass.

          • I feel the same way about the 49’ers, especially since I moved to Atlanta. When the Falcons were in the western division of the NFC, they played the 49’ers twice a year and usually got their asses kicked. The 49’ers used to have some classy players like Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. Then they got Terrell Owens who was a major league asshole. My sister is a major 49’ers fan. She hated Deion Sanders so I had a little fun with her when he joined the team. The current team has iots share of assholes. Good coach, classless players. I feel the same way about Seattle. I’ll be rooting for Denver.
