And as one of my commenters said, it will be a helicopter powered by evil fossil fuels that will save them. The only thing that would have made this better was if Pope Albert I of the Church of AGW was on the ship.
Keep in mind that it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere.

The expedition seems to be the brain-child (!) of an Aust. academic (Prof Chris Turley) who decided it was one way to promote the fight against global-warming.
Now it seems that the people on the stranded ship will be evacuated by helicopter to another ship. Think of the time, resources and fuel being used by that mob!
An interesting aspect is the reaction from greeny types to anyone who takes any glee from this predicament – do a web search for Andrew Bolt’s blog for some of the comments.
Hope the ice gets thicker and the visibility stays minimal.
Just remember, when we use episodes like this to point out the fallacy of global warming they call it anecdotal evidence. On the other hand, when there is an episode of warm weather, it “proves” global warming exists. Here’s an example. I got an email from some old dude in Canada today who said that some unseasonably warm weather in New York proved global warming, but this event in Antarctica didn’t. This year we had the coldest Thanksgiving in Atlanta since 1911, but to the AGW crowd this was simply “anecdotal evidence” and doesn’t prove anything. On the contrary, it “proves” global warming. Remember, to this crowd, everything proves global warming. AGW is a religion and these idiots lap it up.
Me too. We need to worry more about global cooling than we do about global warming.

Global Waring aka Climate change is just the latest example of Governments and others finding a way to deprive ordinary hard working folks of their money.

Yeahm CFLs are a large and steaming POS. Here is scabattle, they replaced all our incandescents FREE. Fortunately they left the incandescents.
When I mentioned that “they last MUCH longer” propaganda was patently wrong, the installer told me the way to make that work was to run them for at least a half hour when you install them. A week later, half the new CFLs were dead.
Also notice that we run our heaters more often with CFLs. We used to get heat AND light.

If you read the news reports about this incident, they call it a research expedition but fail to mention that it was for studying global warming.
I do not know about Antarctica`s global warming ice buildup but here in lush tropical Erie Pa we got another 17″ of Global Warming for an official 78″ snow fall total this winter.
