I love these short days! I only had to drive about 350 miles today. On the downside, the weather was miserable. It was in the high 30’s and low 40’s and rained/drizzled on and off the entire trip. Very misty. Turn the wipers on. Turn the wipers off.

Last night at the hotel, I got to talking to an old couple who had just come from Breckenridge, CO. They told me I-70 in Kansas was crawling with cops. They even got pulled over by a cop going 76 in a 75 mph zone. They got off with a warning. They were right. I’ve driven through Kansas on I-70 many times and I’ve never seen as many cops on the side of the road looking for speeders as I did today between Kansas City and the turnoff to Manhattan. Most of them appeared to be county sheriffs. I guess their counties needed some revenue. I usually set my cruise control about five miles over the speed limit, but I went slower than that today.

I heard on the radio, and I read on the web today, that TV has given Bridgegate 17 times the coverage in one day than IRS scandal in six months. After all, Khristy Kreme must be destroyed. Media bias? Nah!

Had dinner tonight with Jeremy.

One of the dumbest people in Congress, Sheila “Is the Mars Rover anywhere near the flag the astronauts planted?” Jackson Lee wants to change the word “welfare” to “Transitional Living Fund”. (Thanks to all the readers who sent me this story.)

(CNSNews.com) – In a brief speech on the House floor Wednesday, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) hailed the war on poverty, endorsed government welfare programs, and said the “safety net has to be something for all of us.”

“Maybe the word welfare should be changed to something of, ‘a transitional living fund.’ For that is what it is — for people to be able to live,” she said.

For people to be able to sit on their asses and steal money from the productive members of society. That’s what it really is.

Yep. That’s what liberals progressives rat bastard commies like to do. It’s what they did with affirmative action. Affirmative action got a bad rap so they changed it to Diversity (All Hail Diversity!). Yeah. Now it’s supposed to include women, gays, crips, and Hispanics. Asians aren’t included since they don’t need it. Make no mistake. Diversity (All Hail Diversity!) is mainly for blacks. Look who is usually in charge of Diversity (All Hail Diversity!) programs in business. It’s almost always a black dude.

Progressive became a bad word, so they changed it to liberal. Now liberal is a bad word, so they’ve changed it back to progressive, Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Welfare is supposed to be transitional living. It wasn’t supposed to be a way of life, at least that’s how LBJ and the Dims sold it. It was supposed to be a “hand up, not a hand out”, in the words of LBJ. And, when they sold it, the LSM didn’t show poor black people. They showed poor white people in Appalachia. These were the people it was supposed to help, so they said. What do we have now? We have multi-generational welfare. We have families who know nothing else. There is nothing transitional at all unless you want to count the fifteen year old girl who gets preggers and transitions from her mama’s Section 8 housing to her own Section 8 housing. That’s the only transition you’ll see.

So, to Sheila for trying to make welfare sound like sumpin’ it isn’t, I’m giving her the AOTW Award.

St. Peters, Missouri

Dude! Where is St. Peters?

It’s west of St. Louis on I-70 not too far from where I-70 crosses the Missouri River.

It was in the 40’s when I left Atlanta and the sun was shining. That didn’t last very long. Before I got out of Georgia, I had to put the sunglasses away ’cause it got cloudy. It was interesting going up to Mont Eagle pass seeing all the frozen water on the sides of the rocks. There was some snow on the ground as well. After I went through Nashville it started raining and the temperature started dropping. It was 34 degrees most of the way and then about 30 miles east of St. Louis it started snowing. That only lasted for about 20 miles.

Normally, I try to make it to Denver in two days, but I’m getting a little too old for those long pushes any more. I feel being a crip has added between five and ten years to my age so that makes be between 72 to 77 years old. My bil can still make those long drives since he’s a young whippersnapper of 71. (He’s in better shape than both my sister and I. I’m a crip and my sister is dying of cancer. Fortunately, it is a very slow form of cancer and she’ll prolly die of sumpin’ else before she dies of it.) For example, last year when we went to Park City, he drove and we made it from Atlanta to Kansas City in one day, sumpin’ I have done myself on these trips at least three times. The last two times, I only made it to Columbia Missouri another 90 miles down the road. I used to really love to drive, but I kinda wish he were driving on this trip. I took it easy this time, because tomorrow, I plan on only driving to Manhattan Kansas and meeting up with this guy. Every time I’ve been through here, he has wanted me to stop and every time, there were scheduling constraints. Since I’ve allocated three days to get to Denver, this is the perfect time.

It’s the scandal of the century! It’s worse than Ben Ghazi! It’s worse than the IRS scandal! It’s worse than the healthcare.gov fiasco! What am I talking about? It’s Khristy Kreme closing three lanes on the George Washington Bridge. Yep! There was a feeding frenzy with the LSM at today’s press conference about it. It’s all that was on the news today. If you have any doubt that the LSM is the propaganda arm of the Dimocrat Party this “scandal” should dispel all doubts. The LSM is much more upset about this “scandal” than they were over Ben Ghazi, the IRS, or the roll out of Obummercare. They were in high dudgeon today! Today, they were tougher on Khristy Kreme than they were on Thunder Rodent Thighs and Obungler over Ben Ghazi where four Americans were left to die. Khristy Kreme has also answered more questions about this than Obumbler and Thunder Rodent Thighs combined did on Ben Ghazi. Pitiful! This is what passes for “journalism” today. Dimocrat good. Republican bad. Chicago thug politics good. New Jersey thug politics bad if a Republican is the thug. Had it been a Dimocrat it would have been OK. I don’t even like Khristy Kreme and I still think the hypocrisy practiced by the LSM over this is outrageous. Has Oblunder fired anyone over Beh Ghazi, the IRS, or healthcare.gov? Khristy Kreme has already fired at least one person already.

As I was riding around today, I heard a figure on the radio. Since the beginning of LBJ’s Great Fucking Society, we have spent over $20 trillion in the War on Poverty. What do we have to show for it? We still have poverty. It’s gotten worse not better. And our poor live better than middle class people in other countries. They have TVs and smart phones. And look at the crime. Look at the feral blacks playing the Knockout Game. Look at the rise of the illegitimacy rate for both black and white mothers. It’s worse among black women where it’s over 70% but it has risen among white women as well. Get yourself knocked up and you can go on welfare. And you can keep irresponsibly having babies and we will pay you for it.

Think of what we could have done with that $20 trillion if we hadn’t subsidized poverty in this country. We could have come up with some common sense solutions for a lot less than that. But what do I know? I’m just a heartless racist SOB.

What kind of people would rob a dying woman? It happened in Wichita Kansas in a drive through at a Taco Bell. Thanks to Ronald for pointing me to this story.

Danielle Zimmerman, 43, suffered a brain aneurysm as she was driving through the Taco Bell drive-through lane at 3725 E. Harry on the evening of Dec. 29. Her truck crashed into a speaker in the drive-through lane. She died the next day.

By the time emergency responders arrived, someone stole her purse, credit cards, telephone and wedding ring. The ring was removed from Zimmerman’s finger.

“Unfortunately, the ring and some of the other property has not been recovered,” Nolte said. “We are still looking for that. We are hopeful that we can get that property back in the right hands.”

I’ve been under the weather for the last few days with some digestive problems. I think they’re all cleared up. I hope so since I’m leaving on Thursday to go skiing in Colorado.

So, anyway, this morning, it was time for my quarterly visit to the pain clinic to make sure all the meds I’m on are working and to get my pain med prescriptions renewed. Now, the DEA has checked in and mandated that on every visit to the pain clinic I have to pee in a cup. Alas, I hadn’t been notified of this policy since it just started the first of the year. I didn’t have a catheter with me, and there weren’t any at my medical facility which seems rather strange since there is a urology department there. So, I had to go home to get a catheter and then return to give them a sample. That’s all I wanted to do on the coldest day of the year. Make another trip to the doctor’s office. At least it had warmed up from 9 degrees to 22 degrees. Supposed to get up in the 40’s tomorrow. A heat wave!
