  1. In the Allegheny National Forest by my hunting camp when Well Drilling was being ramped up, the Drilling company hired by the Mineral Rights holder showed up one day & asked for permission to conduct a water quality test of my drilled water well .
I did not have a problem with this but asked several questions…….
    1. Why? Answer was only reason was to be able to show a comparison of water quality before well drilling to after if any complaints were made.
    2. I asked would I get a copy of the results of water quality test ? Answer was here is the phone number of our home office who is conducting & monitoring these tests & they would take my information & send me a copy free of charge.
    3. I asked what type of well drilling was going to be done? Answer was while Marcellus Shale drilling was the hot topic the nearest Marcellus well to my camp was 8 miles away & posed no problem to my water supply.
What was being planned for where my camp is located was directional drilling from off private property sites in the ANF under various Camp locations so as not to cause any damage to surface structure or forest cover on privately owned sites adjacent to the ANF such as my camp. The nearest such site to my camp is about 500 yards away. I was invited to come over & check it out.
    4. I asked since I have a well the water testing seemed to be logical but what about all the spring fed water supplies? The water test technician said permission was being asked for these systems as well with it probable most if not ALL of the spring fed systems would have existing serious problems due to existing surface water contamination of the springs & cisterns.
The end result was my well tested fine & no water quality issues ever developed with my water supply while several camp owners who had spring fed systems who complained found water quality problems they attributed to directional drilling as subsequent water testing duplicated the findings from the tests conducted before the well drilling was done.
Thus no problems caused by well drilling in & or around where my camp is located ever occurred.
Almost all of the springs located near existing camp sites were found to have contamination from defective septic systems & surface runoff from roads.
