I am frequently asked to produce “schedules” for various engineering projects that I am working on. When management inevitably get the news that it’s going to take longer than they’d like, they ask me if it would help to put more people on it. My answer is always the same: Up to a point, but some things only one person can do effectively. It takes about fifteen minutes and nine months to make a baby. And two people are only needed during the first fifteen minutes. Adding more women to the project won’t make the baby release to market out any sooner.
The same thing happened to me with my CDSM. He asked if adding more people would make a project faster. One of our programmers, who was really good with zingers and got away with them because she was so sweet, told him one woman could have a baby in nine months but nine women couldn’t have a baby in one month. I had to chuckle when I read her email. She’s one of the things I miss. Working with her was so much fun. She was smart and extremely competent.
It occurred to me years ago that liberals are always trying to “reinvent the wheel”, and endlessly discussing how oval it should be.
