Yet More Global Warming News

Stole this from Don Surber. He’s becoming my anti-AGW guy. I’d tell all my readers to check him out on a daily basis, but I’m pretty sure that all my readers already do.

4406 U.S. record cold temperatures in January – 1073 Snowfall records

Remember though, to the true believers, global warming causes everything, even global cooling. As I keep saying, it’s a religion. I don’t think we should bankrupt our economy because of a religion.

  1. I found this article enlightening (and I was going to post it to the 97% post, but it’s relevant here): “False positives: fraud and misconduct are threatening scientific research”.

Fraud is rampant in published science. Retractions in Nature are up 1200% even though only published articles are up only 44% over the past 10 years. Up to 72% of scientists commit questionable acts to obtain the results they wanted.

Why are scientific papers being falsified and why is data being manipulated? Many reasons — the drive to be published, the drive for fame, the drive to come out with novel results, the drive to come out with the results people want, and the drive for grant money.

Plus negative results are rarely published. One study in 2011 showed evidence of psychic powers and even though most scientists though that study was crap, a study that tried to replicate the results and failed was rejected by journals for a year!

And this is endemic throughout all fields of science!

So when people talk about scientific papers on global warming, think of these things. Scientists are under pressure to publish papers that support global warming for the praise of their colleagues and for grant money with more outrageous claims since and they do anything from fudge the numbers to outright lie to get published.

  2. It has occurred to me lately that the claim by the AGW crowd that us deniers/skeptics don’t believe in climate change or science in general is exactly backwards. We are the ones who know that climate is constantly changing, that it has been much colder and much warmer in the past. We are the ones who know that science is never “settled”.
