Another good one gone. James Garner just died. I remember watching Maverick as a kid and was sad when he left ’cause he wanted to do movies. My favorite episode was when a banker cheated him out of some money so his brother Bart Maverick and all of the other con men on the program like Dandy Jim Buckley played by Efrem Zimbalist Junior, by the way, and con ladies, like Samantha Crawford, joined up to con the banker out of the money he stole. Bret spent most of the episode sitting on a chair and whittling and saying, “I’m working on it” when people would ask him when he was gonna get his money back. After Garner left, Jack Kelly couldn’t carry the series by himself and even tho’ they brought in other people. Maverick was not Maverick without Garner. It was a nice touch to have him in the Maverick movie. I’ll admit I never watched the Rockford files but he made it a popular series as well. He excelled in all sorts of roles from serious to romantic.
So many good people are leaving us this year. RIP James.
He was a very entertaining actor, and he’ll be missed.
The Rockford files were very good. I remember it used to come on at 1am Friday night and I was allowed to watch it, if I could stay awake.
I’ll have to watch them again.
RIP James Garner, another one gone who had class. I never watched Maverick. But I used to watch the Rockford files all the time when I was growing up in the 70’s. I loved that show. Sad to see him go. Not many great actors left with type of Class Garner had.
Mr Garner served honorably in Korea ( 5th Regimental Combat Team) and was awarded 2 purple hearts for combat wounds.
Not many current Liberal, Socialists Hollywood inhabitants (I wouldn’t give them the pleasure of calling the “actors”) can even state they served or even thought of serving their country in the military.
Stick that in your pompous, cowardly fat ass Sean Penn.
Rest In Peace Bret Maverick
Hollywood once was a bastion of patriotism full of actors /actresses who loved & supported this country . In today`s world this has changed with Tinsel Town having a definite red tinge with a decided left tilt .
James Garner was a stranger in a strange land as far as Hollywood thought because he loved this country , served it honorably & always supported what this country stood for.He will be missed by many across America who loved & appreciated this man`s work ,talent & patriotism.
There are every few left in Hollywood who can be considered as being true blue to America…….Rest in Peace James Garner , I`ll for one will always treasure your acting talent & honor your service & sacrifices for this country.
Support Your Local Sheriff and Support Your Local Gunfighter were 2 of the best comedy movies ever.
RIP Jim
Still watch Maverick on the western channel. It’s fun and lighthearted and good for kids.
I watched it as a kid, age 6.
Definately a cool guy. Loved his role in The Notebook as well.
The Great Escape is my favorite James Garner movie.
