Saturday Guitar

Since it’s Winter, let’s have some Winter from Vivaldi.

Little late today. I have actually started playing the piano again and lost track of time. I downloaded the music for Bach’s Prelude in C Major and am fumbling my way through it. It’s like I never played piano before. Claudia said she could teach it to me in a week. Wrongo! I’ll be lucky to learn it in a month. That’s how much my piano skills have deteriorated. It’s been 26 years since I’ve actually sat down and played piano.

  1. I admit it would take a bit longer than a week to feel comfortable at the piano after so many years of absence. But it’s great that you’re back at it. Go and listen to the Prelude each time before your practice. It will bring your spirit at the level of what you’re attempting to play. Don’t try to do the whole piece at once. When you stumble, re-practice that portion till it’s right. Practice it solid, in the notes. You’ll do the pianissimo later, once you feel at ease with the reading. Good luck!

This Asiatic gentleman is marvelous. I don’t know if it’s racist to say that Asiatic people are musically very gifted. At my school of music, the white girls could never stand up to the Chinese pianists. It was a bit maddening.

    • I’m learning it like I learned the Promenade, a measure at a time. Practice, practice, practice. Right hand. Left hand. Put them together. The octaves with the note in the middle are bothering me because I’m not used to the stretch, but it’s coming back. I can play the first page of the score.

      • You really know how to do it! Not worried about you. I was glad to be sent back to The Promenade. Nice little piece to play.

        • Took me a month to learn The Promenade, but I was a better player back then. I also learned part of The Gnome. I am really glad I have started back on the piano again. Bach is so much fun to play. I am gonna have to relearn both of his Minuets in G. I played both of them when I took Class Piano.

  2. Reading in previous posts that you were not well last week. I hope that the pain medication helped you through that bad period. Actually practicing music used to help me when I had medical problems. A different sort of pain…..
