Oh, my dear Claudia, if only you knew how many clowns I had to salute in my time… let’s see, there was Lt. Snowflake, and Capt. Mucus and the list goes on and on. It got so bad that we had to be careful not to use those nicknames in the presence of the other officers. Then there was my CO in VietNam, who looked just like Joe Flynn’s role, Capt. Binghampton, in McHale’s Navy. I’m sure most of the guys on here who’ve served could tell us of their own versions of my list.
As for our ringmaster here, I’ll salute ol’ Denny all day long.
Inbredredneck – I can relate. When I was in the Navy, I ran into so many doofus officers that I used to think you went to college to learn to be stupid. I can honestly say there were only two officers I actually respected. The first one was the CO when I first got aboard the Iredell County. He was a mustang and they usually turn out to be good officers. I’m sure that Ron, who was a mustang as well can attest to that. The second was the Operations Officer who came aboard shortly after I did. He treated me with respect and I reciprocated.
Let’s not turn this into a circus.
Why not, inbredredneck? Better be a circus that the army. At least, in the circus, you don’t have to salute the clowns!
