AlphaDelta sent me this story.
Two more very cold arctic blasts are going to hit Michigan this week. Conditions may be right late in the week for rapid ice making on the Great Lakes.
But NOAA keeps telling us it continues to get warmer. They just said that January was the warmest January on record. How can this be?
This makes me think we could make a run at record ice cover on the Great Lakes by this coming weekend.
Record ice cover? But the Arctic sea ice is melting. How can this be while at the same time we’re fixin’ to set records for Great Lakes ice? Wait a minute! I remember. Remember the Polar Vortex from last year? This site’s pet liberal, Robin Palm, said the Polar Vortex was a result of warming at the North Pole. That was pushing all of the cold air down over the United States. After all, Robin has a masters degree and is so much smarter than the rest of us so he had to be right, right? Right? Right?
As of Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, the total Great Lakes ice cover was 84.4 percent. Record total ice cover on the Great Lakes is 94.7 percent, set in 1979.
You remember the 70’s dontcha? That’s when everyone said that we were supposed to worry about global cooling. That was before Pope Albert I of the Church of AGW invented the internet and founded the Church of AGW. Yannow, I can hardly wait until the first week of March when NOAA will announce that this February was the hottest February ever. NOAAA is a gummint agency and we know the gummint wouldn’t lie to us, would it?
Two factors will play into record ice cover or not this week. Temperatures will be extremely cold for this time of year with three mornings dropping well below zero. So temperatures will be cold enough for rapid building of ice.
But I thought the planet was warming. What’s with these record cold temperatures?
But wind, or lack of wind, is also very important in ice cover growing. The wind on Lake Michigan would make waves, break up ice, and even push the ice down into deeper parts of the lake. A strong wind could actually reduce total ice cover.
To summarize this week in Michigan and the Great Lakes region, Tuesday looks very windy, and then the second half of the week looks bitterly cold once again.
Yannow, I sure am glad we’re pumping all of this CO2 into the atmosphere. Just think how cold it would be if it weren’t for global warming climate change. Read the rest of the article at the site.
Repeat after me: “The glaciers are coming! The glaciers are coming!”
HOT NEWS, VIA MY LIBERAL SISTER:
The recent extreme “cold” weather across the United States is being FORCED down from the polar region by the North Pole temperature rising exponentially. So, there you see it is “Global warming” behind the most frigid winter in decades.
Yup, you heard it here thanks to a dope, drone 70 year old babe…!
Yup, she’s a blonde! 🙁
Ask her how the cold air is being forced south when its more dense than hot air which would rise up in the atmosphere. Hot air in the arctic would rise pulling colder air NORTH to replace it.
Tell your sister I have no respect for her. You can also tell her I have lost all respect for you by association (not really) and she needs to stop spouting stupid things.
I feel your pain Deathknyte, but have you tried to turn a 70 year old, blonde, female’s ideological views?
Turning Lead into Gold would be easier.
I’m glad you’re not gonna shoot me, the messenger.
Ammo is too expensive to shoot anyone. You can’t really argue with someone’s chosen faith anyway. Even nominally intelligent people believe Al Gore correct.
Robin Palm, our pet liberal who, by the way, has a masters degree, stated on this very site last year that the Polar Vortex was caused by warming at the North Pole. He even provided a link to a site run by liberal booger eatin’ moh-ron where he got this information.
Climate change is not completely unacceptable to me. Changes in solar intensity, shifts in ocean currents, varying degrees of volcanic activity, massive forest fires . . . . all sorts of naturally occurring events can individually have up-or-down effects on planetary climate and weather.
In coincidence, two or three of them together could cause abrupt and catastrophic changes in regional or global climate. For example, ice and snow reflect sunlight, which reduces accumulated heat, which in turn allows more accumulation of snow and ice. Too much reflected sunlight, and glaciers advance, lakes stay frozen, arable land becomes less productive.
Too much reduction in the polar ice caps causes residual heat buildup in sea and land which then becomes self-sustaining, causing permafrost to melt, which in turn releases trapped methane, which is a greenhouse gas, which then causes more warming, which melts More ice, and so on.
The same thing can happen on seafloors . . . increased volcanic action releases CO2 and oxides of sulfur, which are greenhouse gases, and possibly stirs up methane trapped in sediments, which adds to the greenhouse effect . . . and on and on and on.
The sun is going to do what it wants. We can do precisely NOTHING about solar activity (which, BTW, is apparently entering a “quiet” phase with fewer and less massive flares). And there’s not one helluva lot we can do about oceanic currents, or volcanic activity, or methane releases.
If this planet is warming, then it’s warming. Perhaps if we eliminated 90% of the humans and large mammals from the environment, a measurable difference in CO2 and methane emissions might be detectable. But life on earth is carbon-based. Most of the carbon is initially fixed into the food chain by photosynthesis, C6H12O6 for example.
When living organisms stop functioning, decomposition almost always sets in, which releases that carbon back into the atmosphere, mostly in CO2 and CH4 (methane). So everything that lives will eventually contribute to greenhouse gas release.
All I know for certain is that a year ago I lost a mandarin orange tree to winterkill. It had been there for over 20 years, thriving, producing great fruit . . . and now it’s just a stump. This year I’ve also lost 4 kalamansi trees (a sort of cross between a lime and an orange) which we’ve had for over 20 years.
Things may be getting hotter in other parts of the globe, but ratcheer in P’Cola, we’ve had two of the coldest winters I’ve seen in three decades. Whether the Arctic ice cap is shrinking or not, I honestly can’t say. What I CAN say is that Al Gore is an asshole, and we are pretty goddam presumptuous and suicidal to think that by destroying American business and manufacturing we can unilaterally reverse the trends established by the other 7 billion semi-intelligent bipeds and by the planet itself.
Solar activity heads for lowest low in four CENTURIES! (9300 years).

Global cooling here we come.
This is funny, maybe that’s why they are so into heat. Al Gore and Rajendra K. Pachauri:

Good grief! You mean the weather changes?!
If you stare at something long enough you can see whatever pattern you want to see.
As I keep saying: Just do everything I say – give me all of power – and I’ll make you safe.
Hey, it worked for good ol’ Adolf.
Global warming/Climate change Erie Style…………
1. Conflicting Snow fall totals as several certified weather watchers state 100 .3 inch s while the Airport site for official measurements says only 97.9..whoopde do!
Meanwhile at Dudley1`s shop it is well over 130 inch s…far more then asshole deep to a tall Indian.
2. So far in January &February we have set 8+ new all time temperature lows at the Airport -18 twice & a smattering of -8 to -13`s
Meanwhile once away from the Lake Erie shore temperatures have fallen to as low as -28 with -22/-24 common around the shop …It will be a very expensive winter to heat the shop this year.
Incidently 67% of our daily low temperatures have occured after 1950 while the majority of the warmest daily temperatures are from before 1950.
3 . Lake Erie is officially 97% ice covered but since ice thickness varies greatly from dunes up to 10 feet thick to scant inches as the ice flex`s due to current & wind, people are advised to stay off of the Lake. Probably any day now some dipshit will be subject to a rescue or disappear during a hike out on the frozen Lake while attempting to walk to Canada.
4. We had some Pope “AlGore” followers spouting the Polar vortex excuse as being the cause for our LOCALLY abnormal colder event citing how much warmer it is in Billings Montana. Billings does not happen to agree with this assessment as they experienced their 11th worst January in the last 80 years.
Gotta love the Gore weather dullards who cannot fact check what they post.
Actually while Erie indeed is colder then normal keeping current snow cover from melting, our Total Snow Fall for Erie is pretty much normal & likely will exceed 120 ” by winters end.
I find it comical that people like us who dispute the AGW theory are called climate deniers or climate skeptics, just because we don’t buy into the theory that CO2 is causing climate change. In fact, it is just the opposite. It’s the AGW crowd who believes that if only we stopped producing CO2 the climate would remain the same forever and nothing would ever change in their perfect world. They in fact are the climate deniers, they are the ones who don’t believe in climate change. Most of us acknowledge the climate has gone through a warm period but we certainly don’t agree on why that is so. Most of us believe a little warming is a blessing and will allow mankind to thrive and have a chance of producing enough food for everyone. A little cooling will have the opposite effect. If it cools one degree, watch the shit start to hit the fan. Big Time.
