Top Down Day

As Don Surber would say, today was a top down day, which gave me a good excuse to put the top down on my 2001 BMW Z3 and drive to the post office to mail a form to get money from my healthcare reimbursement account. Crank up Led Zeppelin II on the sound system! I just love how that 3.0 liter engine growls when I step on the accelerator. It’s hard to believe that car is 14 years old. It only has about 56K miles on it in spite of the fact that I drove it out to California to drive up the PCH from LA to where it ends at California 101 just past the Redwoods Park. I also drove it to Texas and back and numerous trips to St. Louis and back. When I first bought it, I had two other cars (BMW 325 and a Nissan pickup) so I shared the driving on my work commute. I don’t really drive it too much anymore since I have to break down my wheelchair to fit it into the passenger seat.

Update: Claudia linked to this post of the Mississippi River trip Ryan referred to in the comments. Ryan also still has his Z4.

  1. Denny, sounds like a sweet auto. I came into possesion of my older sister & bro in laws 1973 red Corvette convertible a few months back.
Ken passed away so I took it off of her hands when she was ready to let it go. 51,400 original miles because it sat in their garage for 26 years.
Who does that?? In the central CA. valley the weather is grand and it’s driving time for this car. It’s too damn hot in the summer here for it. No A/C.

  2. I have two photos of the Mississippi trip (May 2008) I nearly put them here. One you’re standing up, tall and solid, with Ryan and Sherry. Behind you is the Mississippi leaving Lake Itaska. The other photo is beautiful Z4 and Z3. The fans would love to read of your trip again, if you give a link.
