Ron sent me an email that attributes the following to Clint Eastwood. I doubt that he said it, but it is possible. Most of these internet quotes are not from the people they are attributed to. I’m sure this is but another one.
The trouble with quotes on the Internet is that you never know if they are genuine. — Abraham Lincoln
As I enjoy my twilight years, I am often struck by the inevitability that the
party must end. There will be a clear, cold morning when there isn’t any
“more.” No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together,
no more phone calls just to chat. It seems to me that one of the
important things to do before that morning comes, is to let every
one of your family and friends know that you care for them by finding
simple ways to let them know your heartfelt beliefs and the guiding
principles of your life so they can always
say, “He was my friend, and I know where he stood.”So, just in case I’m gone tomorrow, please know this: I voted against that
incompetent, lying, flip-flopping, insincere, double-talking, radical
socialist, terrorist excusing, bleeding heart, narcissistic, scientific
and economic moron currently in the White House!Participating in a gun buy-back program because you think that
criminals have too many guns is like having yourself
castrated because you think your neighbors have too many kids.
Amen!
NAAAH! A quick check on DuckDuckGo will give ya’ enough stuff to dismiss Clint Eastwood saying this. Although it’s an very attributable quote for the likes of Clint and one that I could easily see him saying, after reading this I was immediately suspicious that it was a collection of various quotes that was compiled and then attributed to Eastwood.
More investigating is in order since I’m sure that I have heard various parts in separate quotes, most notably, the first paragraph and the last one has been used by “Gun Lovers” and on de-motivational posters for some time now.
Now you guys have got me started and I must find the origins because, unlike the Obama administration, I won’t call something wrong unless I can prove it. Let’s see who finds the truth first!
So far I haven’t been able to find the absolute origins for the quote although I found that it began anonymously circulating the Internet in Sept. ’13 and by Nov. ’13 it had Eastwood’s name attached to it. It’s possible that it was inspired by this:
Legend has it that these words are written on the tomb of an Anglican Bishop, buried in the crypts of Westminster Abbey in London:
“When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country.
“But it too, seemed immovable.
“As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it.
“And now as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realise, If I had only changed myself first, then by example I would have changed my family.
From their inspiration and encouragement, I would then have been able to better my country and, who knows, I may have even changed the world.”
Eastwood’s a pussy. The quote sounds like it’s from GOC.
It really does not matter who said that. I can only say that I am also in my twilight years (will be 80 in May). And as far as what was said about voting for the clown in the White House, I will only say – neither did I. But I agree with all the adjectives the author used.
