They’re not dogs; they’re furry rats. And my new kitten woke me up at 5:30 this morning with a paw on my face (without claws). That’s why I let him live.
I just don’t ‘get’ cats. A relationship with a cat is, for the most part, a one-way street. You do everything for a cat, including allowing it to defecate and urinate in your HOUSE, and it returns the favor by ignoring you wholesale. I read that ‘cat’ people are more intelligent on the average than ‘dog’ people. Maybe so, but ‘dog’ people have more sense. We like a pet that genuinely cares about us, and loves us unconditionally. Cats just don’t give a shit –
Actually you are wrong. Many cats are very affectionate, it’s just on their terms. And many of them like to give gifts to their roommate. At my old house, I allowed my cats to go outside when they pleased. Doofus liked to hunt and bring me presents in the night like lizards and field mice. He was also one of the friendliest cats I have ever met. I once had a little tabby cat, Ashley, who was the Will Rogers of cats. She loved everyone. The reason I have cats for pets instead of dogs is that I can go off for a weekend and leave enough food and they’ll be OK. I also don’t have to walk them like I would with a dog. Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs, it’s just easier for me to have cats as pets.
Bunnies are the same way. You can leave them for a weekend with no problems. How I ended up with a cat, you ask? Four week old kitten crying, crying, crying on my front porch. I open the door to see and he just came right on in. I had lost my last bunny in November and it just sucks without a pet. Figured the universe heard me.
I have had three cats adopt me. In my old house, a little girl kitten came through the cat door, up the stairs, and into the house. I think she followed my large black cat Doofus (who was a stray himself who adopted me by coming in through the cat door. So, I adopted him and had him fixed.) home. She jumped right up on my lap and start purring and making biscuits. I could tell she had been abandoned even though there was a little ribbon around her neck, when a nurse friend told me she was with child. So, I took her to the vet and had a little kitty abortion and had her fixed.
I read somewhere that there was a theory that cats domesticated themselves. When humans started storing grain it attracted rats. Cats came to eat the rats and decided to adopt humans. As I wrote in an earlier comment, some cats can be very outgoing and very affectionate, like many cats who have lived with me: Oscar, Ashley, Doofus, Rags, Rufus, and Tiffany. I also have had cats who were only affectionate with m elike my current black cat, Little Black Sambo and my previous black cat, Scooter. My little tabby cat, Chloe has her moods, mostly in the morning. She was all over me this morning, even more so than usual. My first cat, Algernon, was affectionate to me and some of my friends. People who say that cats don’t love their owners and aren’t affectionate have never lived with a cat. All my cats have slept with me. There was a time I had four cats living with me and they all slept in the same bed with me. There was a pecking order as to which cat slept where. When I lived in St. Louis at my first apartment, my girlfriend had an apartment in the same building. When I would sleep with her in her apartment, Algernon would sleep with us there instead of staying at my place. He liked her almost as much as he liked me. Her apartment was on the first floor and he could easily jump up to her balcony from the sidewalk.

And after we die, they wait for us to soften a bit and then they eat us…
Um, those two critters old ladies fawn over are supposed to be considered dogs?
They are what I call yap dogs.
LOL! Yep. But, I think with help from the lady commenting below – nails it – yap rats.

Heh!
