The original.
These guys were fun to watch as they were all over the stage. I saw the guitar player, Cub Koda, slide under the bass player’s legs on one of their songs. According to Wiki he died in 2000.
Maybe I should post the metal version of this.
I was 6 when that came out.
We’d sing it at school to annoy the teachers, because singing ain’t allowed in school.
Yeah, I had that record in high school. The 45 RPM vinyl. Actually, it was probably polystyrene. They usually didn’t press 45s on vinyl for the punk kids who listened to top 40 drivel.
Brownsville Station did a lot of novelty tunes. Dr. Demento used to like to play Martian Boogie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RU8EqkQKfw0
I attended grade school and hung around with Mike (“Cub”) Koda in Michigan, where he showed no interest in music during the time I knew him. Wasn’t until I read a Rolling Stone article mentioning his name before I learned of his connection to Brownsville Station.
Oh. Almost forgot. I was among his group which DID smoke in the boy’s room. Good times, good times!
Shit I was 32 when it came out and I was banging every babe at work and ones I could (easily) pick up at the local meat-factories.
It was me and my VW ’72 yellow beetle against the world. No drugs to cloud the mind….and life was so fucking good!
By the way anyone notice if the dude with the glasses bears a strange resemblance to Caitlyn Jenner? Yea I know the hair color is wrong, …………………….but!!!!
I was such a classical snob. I couldn’t stand this type of music in my 40s. Now I feel that it could have taught me a thing or two. And that the great composers I love might have jumped on that bandwagon, reached a wider public and certainly made more money.
Claudia – I have to admit that my taste in music is very wide from blue grass to classical to hard rock to some country western now that it has merged with rock like in the case of Shania Twain. The “music” I have no use for is hip hop. I guess that must make me a racist.
I don’t have a clue what Hip Hop is. And I won’t waste a minute trying to find out. I have an enjoyable time following your music posts. I trust what you offer and the comments. It’s like taking a course. Better late than never!
It’s what they now call rap music. It’s urban black.
They call that ranting blabbering music? I’ve never paid attention to it.
Do a search for Cub Koda and “Pee in the Cup” for an interesting little ditty! (“The captain says you gotta pee in the cup, to see if you’re doin’ drugs!”_
I also first heard “The Martian Boogie” on the Dr. Demento show. Great memories!
