2015 Road Trip Day 1
Columbia Missouri.
That answers one question. Where am I going? I’m going Northwest. Where you may ask? First, I’m going to Grand Coulee Dam. I really should have been a civil engineer because I love bridges and dams. After that, I’m gonna go to Glacier National Park to drive on the Going to the Sun Road. I saw a special about the construction of the road about ten years ago and since then, I’ve wanted to drive on it. I only wish I could still walk so I could have driven my Z3. I can get one of my wheelchairs in it but it’s a pain having to take the chair apart and put it back together again, plus, I have to put the top down to get the chair in and out of the car. Also, that leaves me short of space for the two duffels and the backpack I travel with.
I was a little worried about the drive today. I’ve been having problems sleeping. I can now relate to my mother and my grandmother. It takes me forever to get to sleep at night. I was afraid that I wouldn’t get any sleep and would be tired all day. As it was, I did sleep last night but it was a very light sleep with some really weird dreams. I didn’t have any trouble getting up and got on the road at a decent hour so I didn’t get caught in any Atlanta traffic. It’s been a while since I have gone up I-75 and I see that they have started constructing the reversible toll lanes for I-75. One of the best things I did my last six years at IBM was moving from Acworth to Beautiful Dunwoody. The commute down I-75 was dreadful! I fear the toll lanes won’t help all that much and of course, since they’re toll lanes they have the panties of the liberals progressives rat bastard commies in a wad because it’s not fair that the poor will be stuck in traffic while the winners of life’s lottery can ride in the Lexus Lanes.
I’ve made the drive from Atlanta to St.Louis so many times I can almost drive it in my sleep. From 1985 until 1999 I would make the drive at least twice a year to visit my mother on Thanksgiving and in the Spring. I would drive it on other occasions as well. I especially like the drive from Chattanooga to Nashville. Alongside the Tennessee River in Chattanooga and then across it when it is Lake Nickajack. Then over Mont Eagle Pass. Down to Nashville and across the Cumberland River. Then, in Kentucky, I get to cross both rivers again right before they empty into the Ohio River. Across the Ohio River into Illinois. It’s really great that they built a new bridge across the Mississippi River for I-70 and I no longer have to go across the circus known as the Poplar Street Bridge.
Every time I was making good time today, I got caught in a jam. There was a big rig stalled in the middle of I-75 south of Chattanooga that had traffic backed up for three miles. There was a jam in Nashville that cost me a few minutes. There were two construction zones on I-64 that caused backups. I should have gotten here 30 minutes earlier than I did. I was thinking of driving to Independence today, but I changed my mind last night and decided to only drive to Columbia and made my reservation for here last night. Glad I did.
Anything interesting happen today?
