Of course the Moody Blues aren’t metal, but they could rock out. They still can. Saw them live once back in the 70’s. Looks like it’s just one of the original members in this video, Graeme Edge, and two members from their most successful lineup, Justin Hayward and John Lodge.

  1. It’s a real same they are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are truly deserving and Justin Hayward’s body of work is amazing.

  2. One of the very best concert DVDs I have in my library is Moody Blues
Live at Mortreux from 1991. It was fantastic and I highly recommend
    it!

  3. I agree that they should be in the R&R HoF. This is a great song, but I didn’t particularly like this live version because the singer used too many “pregnant pauses”…it was like he had forgotten the text, then remembered it and quickly had to get it in…and played fast because it was live, it sounded too rushed…

    • I was trying to find a decent live version. There was the Royal Albert Hall version, but it had an orchestra and I wanted just the band. What I wanted, and couldn’t find, was a decent version when Pindar was still in the band playing the Mellotron.

When you look at some of the lame acts in the R&R HOF and realize the Moody Blues and Yes aren’t in you just have to say, “WTF?” Did Rush finally make it it? Another good band snubbed.

Did you know that they found Justin Hayward via a classified ad? They advertised for a singer guitarist and that’s how they found him. He’s only been their lead singer, guitarist, and song writer for most of their existence. Their drummer told that story on one of their PBS specials.

  4. Not sure. I do know that Peart lost his wife to cancer or something a number of years ago, so that may be wife #2.

  5. I’ve seen them at least 7 times and they have always sounded pretty much flawless. Probably of of the most accurate bands I’ve ever heard. And I’ve sold audio gear my whole life and done/owned/own a lot of high end audiophile systems. Last time was probably 15 years ago so I haven’t seen them with any of the newer “staff”. Never saw them with Denny Laine, but did see them with Patrick Moraz. The fact that they’re not in the R&RHOF is a fkin’ joke. Only group I’ve seen more was Black Oak Arkansas(9), now those guys are R&R!! Justin Hayward is coming to the Uptown Theater in KCMO here shortly, seriously going to try to get there and see who shows up with him.

    • Saw Black Oak Arkansas twice. Once was at a four band concert at Lake of the Ozarks over July 4th. It was Black Oak Arkansas, the James Gang (after Joe Walsh had left), Jo Jo Gunne, and one other band. It was hotter than hell. We had to keep going back to the car to get more beer (and weed). The other time was as the warmup act for King Crimson. Now there was a mismatch.
