Happy Birthday to me! 69 years old! For my birthday it’s Tornado of Souls played by Megadeth’s best lineup. This song has prolly the best metal guitar solo ever. Marty Friedman is an epic guitarist. I read somewhere that when Mustaine heard this solo after Marty laid it down he just turned to him and shook his hand.

And as a bonus, from the same concert, In My Darkest Hour. How Mustaine plays those opening chords is beyond me. Talk about stretching the fingers. And he does it on a 12 string!

CharlieDelta gave me the DVD of this concert for Veterans’ Day a few years back.

  1. Happy Birthday, Denny. May you be around for many more. My darlin’ bride’s is tomorrow and she’s still a pretty as she ever was, but you’ve got a few years on her.
Thanks for all the years of fun and enlightenment you’ve given us with this blog.

  2. A Happy Birthday Denny. 🙂

I remember struggling through my 69th year cause if I died at the time I didn’t want my tombstone to read: “Toejam died at 69″…..Sounds way too kinky.

Now I’m well past the 73 mark all is well.

  3. Happy birthday
    O, what fun
    Another trip
    Around the Sun
    We’re so happy
    You are there
    Rolling around
    In your Rolly-Chair
    Grouchy is
    As grouchy does
    Why do we like you?
    Just because

  4. Happy Birthday Denny! May you have many more and never stop ripping the leftist maniacs who are destroying America and western society.

As for Megadeth, I agree that the Marty Friedman/Nick Menza lineup was their best. RUST IN PEACE is Megadeth’s best record, IMO. A lot of fans feel that the Gar Samuelson/Chris Poland lineup was superior, but how can one argue against the guitar chops of Marty Friedman?

Case in point, here is a really cool record pre-Megadeth Marty Friedman recorded in 1987 with guitarist Jason Becker in a band called Cacophony:

  5. i read you every day, and hope you live to 169! Best wishes to you, and thanks for your ability to crystalize my thoughts, feelings, and emotions into a daily acidic dose of humor, outrage and common sense.

BTW, old joke. Do you know how fast a woman can go? 68, because at 69 she blows a rod!

  6. Well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DENNY! The good ole 69 year Huh? Mine beat ya’ by about a month-and-a-half – Plus about 6 yrs. Hey listen, in spite of hat Toejam says, ya’ now have a year to go around with a well-earned smirk on your face.

Personally, I’m looking forward to my next milestone – 77 – Ya’ know, I’ll be 8 more!

  7. We few. We happy few. We band of brothers wish you a Happy Birthday and a Happy Saint Crispin’s day. I was looking forward to the pre-Agincourt battle pep talk from King Henry V. that marks your birthday every year.

  8. Happy birthday Denny!

I know it’s depressing to see the current state our country is in, but I hope you at least live long enough to see things get somewhat better. As long as there are still people like you and your readers out there, this country still has hope.

Regarding Megadeth, they are due to release a new album called “Dystopia” in January, with another new band lineup. Can’t wait to see how that goes.

  9. Happy Birthday, Denny. And many more! Thank you for have brightened and enlightened my old age with your wit and knowledge. The best of everything to you, friend!

  10. Happy B’day Denny …Thanks for all the insight you put out, served up with a generous side of humour…its guaranteed to put a smile on my face in times when I get too serious about just WTF is coming down.

Conclusion: There’s a disproportionate am’t of evil out there.

    Best of health to ya.
