No, what has the world close to suicide is the resurgence of Islam. The next world war is gonna be triggered by Islamic terrorism. Meanwhile, EUrope is committing suicide by opening its gates to Mooslime migrants. That is not gonna work out well for either side.
He also had a few things to say about Africa.

GMAFB! You want to talk about Africa? Until white people arrived Africa was still in the Stone Age. While the rest of the world was advancing, even the Indians in Central and South America, Africa was wallowing along like it had since humanity originated. When did Africa advance? When whites began colonizing the country. Let’s take a look at Rhodesia. Under white rule it was the bread basket of Africa, growing so much food it was able to export it. The white farmers created jobs. But white rule was bad, so the whites turned the country over to the blacks. Now Zimbabwe can’t even feed itself. There are no jobs. There is rampant inflation. And Zimbabwe is now a socialist country. Yannow, socialism, which you support, you rat bastard commie.
Jesuits are supposed to be smart and capable of critical thinking but you show no evidence of that. Every African country colonized by whites improved and the economy created by those evil exploitative whites created jobs. In every African country, save one, the economy declined when whites left. So did employment. The lone exception is South Africa and that country wants to implement the same land policies that destroyed Zimbabwe. It will eventually go the way of the rest of sub-Saharan Africa.
And speaking of socialism, which you preach, take a look at Venezuela. Look at what socialism did to that oil rich country. John Paul II must be spinning in his crypt below St. Peter’s since his beloved church elected a communist pope. Stick to making the sign of the cross and riding around in your popemobile and STFU about mythical AGW. That church already has a pope and it is Pope Albert I of the Church of AGW. And read some history and look at the failures of socialism every where it has been tried.

I was raised Catholic, got better, returned to the Church because of Jan Pawel II, but have made the final, irrevocable split thanks to Francis . It angers me to no end when clergy speak of things they know nothing about, like climate, Islam, or most annoyingly, real-world economics. With very few exceptions, priests couldn’t keep the books for a bake sale, but they have no problem telling me that I could be more generous with my hard earned money for their feel-good project of the week to “help” the “poor”, or, “the children”, or, “the underprivileged”.
The final straw for me was when the local diocese decided to help with mortgages for the needy. They illustrated the need with a film showing a “needy” family ( who looked pretty well off to me ) eventually moving into a house considerably nicer than mine . I wasn’t the only one – attendance at this church has plummeted in the last few years, thanks to it’s increasing ( and strident ) Leftward tilt .

Nothing new here; the Vatican has a long tradition of either chummin’ or competing with Europe’s elites. The strategy is to deflect attention away from the Church’s abuses and scandals by riding along with the international Left’s environmental crusade. They would be foolish to ignore it and not “catch this wave,” hence this pope’s pronouncements on the subject. Incidentally, the fact that these policies will prevent the Third World (especially Latin America) from economically “evolving” out of their overty is actually good for business, from the point of view of the Vatican’s interests.
