Screw Obungler! Screw Sharpton and Jackson! Screw Black Lives Matter! Screw the SJWs! Let’s hear it for Dixie!

Saw Black Oak Arkansas live twice. They put on a great show.

  1. Black Oak Arkansas were an underrated band, and they totally shine here. These guys could hold their own onstage with any other Southern rock band of the time. It’s just a shame they didn’t have the record sales of The Allmans, Skynyrd and Molly Hatchet.

California Jam was a great event. Black Sabbath and Deep Purple played there too. As for BOA, Jim Dandy is one of rock’s more unique characters. I think David Lee Roth was inspired by him. I can see it in his stage presence and hear it in his voice. Only rock frontman in history to play washboard onstage, I think.

  2. Denny,
Did you make it to the Ozark Mtn Music Festival that was held at the state fairgrounds in 1973 or 74? There were 30+ acts on stage. I was there with some buddies for 2 days and what a wild damn weekend it was. It left Sedalia in shambles. I think the promoters’ name was Chris Fritz and he staged many concerts across the Midwest back in those days.
I believe that 200,000+ people showed up.

    • Nope. But I did make it to a concert at Lake of the Ozarks on 4th of July in 1971 (I think). There were four bands and one of them was Black Oak Arkansas. Another was Jo Jo Gunn. The James Gang was ther but this was after Joe Walsh had left. I can’t remember the 4th band.
