As a former New Jersey resident I must differentiate between New York “upper-Staters” and New York City denizens.
New York City residents can be divided into 2 basic categories:
1) The Upper class elite consists of a huge number of Liberal Democrat Jews who are Liberals and Democrat huggers before they are Jews. They see the Clinton as the antipodal entity to Trump and basically the Conservative Republicans. They adore Hillary. Just look at the wall Street bankers shelling out $250,000 to hear the Lesbo bark for 40 minutes. That was just a donation in disguise to circumvent the law.
2) The immigrant (both legal & illegal) working poor and social slime who exist on government subsidies & handouts. They see the Democrats as the universal, never empty “free-stuff” cornucopia.
“Up-Staters” tend to be more to the middle or right of the political spectrum but “in toto” the entire state leans to the left. Just look at the collection of the NY governors. Liberal Democrats for the past 50 years (except for George Pataki a liberal Republican).
Hillary is beloved by uber-Liberal ideologues not stupid people.

NYC has roughly 40% of the state’s population; that pretty much seals the state’s blueness.
A friend of mine worked for IBM at the Poughkeepsie plant and he really hated seeing all of his tax dollars going to New York City.

Having been only in Western/Upstate New York I cannot imagine the squalor of New Yawk itself. I have spent far too much time in Dee-Troit, I also spent a week in Chiraq one day. I have seen sewers masquerading as cities first hand and have no desire to see another.
That said, and in defense of those upstate N.Y. folks. It was a majority of New Yorkers (And we know where that majority is) Not all of them, who elected Shrill-Liar-Ly and, with but 3 exceptions in 56 years, all of those other blood-sucking Dim-O’s.
I cannot think of a worse place in the country to be a Conservative. Of course, those in Californicate, especially in San-Fagcisco, or Taxachusetts might argue that.
