There are 4 official languages of Switzerland,German,French, Italian & what is called Romansh or Rumantsch which is believed to have evolved from what could be the original language spoken by Swiss tribes hundreds of years ago.
This was explained to me back in 1990 when I was in Switzerland on business. However everyday English is becoming more popular.
In line with your post why do New Zealand,Australia & Canada speak English instead of New Zealandian, Australian or Canadian ?
