This is my very favorite version of Crossroads. I love how on Clapton’s solos Bruce takes off on his own solos but still provides backing for Clapton. Same with Baker on drums. That was the beauty of this band. Three superb musicians playing separately but playing together. I thought Clapton did his best work with Cream. As he aged he played slower and slower. Contrast this version to the versions they played at their reunion concerts.
Excellent post from my favorite band! I agree that Clapton really shined here. I still buy all of his stuff as I love his voice, his guitar tone, but yes, I think the “H” he took did for his guitar playing what “H” did for Miles Davis and other great musicians. At least we still have Eric!
Clapton’s best band, hands down. Hendrix loved them.
Guys, I have found a series of unreleased live recordings of Cream taken from their last US tour in Autumn, 1968 and their final concert at the Albert Hall in London from November, 1968, which was the final concert until their reunion in 2005. They are free to download & share:

The Albert Hall tracks sound kinda rough, but the rest sound great and capture the band live when they were at the peak of their powers.
Really great band, all at the height of their talent and power as musicians. Love their music. Thanks so much Denny for the post.
Thanks for the post, Denny. Having given up on mainstream music radio, I’ve been downloading classic rock songs lately. I just added Crossroads to the library. Amazing musicians.
