I’ve never been much of a Rod Stewart fan but I did like some of his stuff with The Faces. This was my favorite. Love the slide guitar and the electric piano. Saw them at the same concert that I saw Cactus.

Great stuff. I liked his work on the two Jeff Beck albums as well.
He and Jeff Beck were gonna join Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice to form a super group but Beck broke his leg so Stewart joined The Faces. Meanwhile Bogert and Appice teamed up with Rusty Day and Jim McCarty to form Cactus. Makes me wonder what Beck, Stewart, Bogert and Appice would have been like.
Cactus was Sunday Metal last week in honor of Tim Bogert’s 72 birthday. I’ve featured them a lot. They were my favorite early 70’s band. I had One Way Or Another on 8-track myself and a ’66 Mustang. I liked that Stewart song as well. When Stewart toured with The Faces, Cactus was the warm up band. My girlfriend at the time loved Rod Stewart and took me to The Faces concert and that’s when I saw Cactus live for the only time. When they came out Rusty Day said sumpin’ along the line of, “You’re gonna be surprised. We’re gonna kick your ass!” Then, they proceeded to do just that. I think Stewart had them tour with him as a consequence of him not joining the band.
That style of guitar playing comes from a certain period in the ’70s and should almost be its own genre. It sounds like Elton John, David Bowie, Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney & Wings, Steve Miller, etc. In many of them the rhythm guitar has a “drop G” or “open G” tuning.

I liked his song “Maggie May” for many years. Not the biggest fan, but he is good and has done some really good music through the years.
That is the one Rod Stewart song I didn’t like. I think it was overplayed.
Good point there, Denny it was overplayed on the radio way to much.
Wow, Cactus, haven’t thought about them in a while. I remember cranking “One Way Or Another” on the 8-track in the ’65 Mustang………..
Not a big Rod Stewart fan either, but I always like the song “Handbags and Glad Rags”……………….
