One of the prettiest guitar pieces ever written played by a country boy from Tennessee.
Tremolo is not very easy to play. God knows I’ve tried. When Chet was learning guitar he played different from most pickers. Most country/bluegrass guitar finger pickers just used the thumb and first two fingers. Chet added the ring finger (which classical guitarists use) ’cause that was the only way he could duplicate the sound he heard on the radio. The same thing happened to me when I was learning guitar. That’s the way I thought folk guitarists played. That helped me when I learned some of the Bach pieces I play. Of course, Chet’s good. I suck. Back in my 20’s I was actually pretty good. My guitar playing got me laid a few times. But I practiced at least two hours a day back then. Now, if I play thirty minutes a day it’s unusual. I’ve forgotten a lot of songs I used to play and sing. I wish I could play and sing (even with my rotten voice) for Claudia like I could back then. I could go for three hours without repeating a song. One of my friends was astounded by my memory. I told him it was poetry. That’s easy to remember. Think of Homer.

Yep – it really sucks, fingers no longer as nimble, can’t remember most of the stuff I played. Thirty minutes with the guitar is a hand starts cramping. Never could sing, but I do love my jazz and blues
I love it all! The tremolo guitar. And reminiscences of time past. We’re all at this point now where what we do in music is far less than what we used to. But it’s wonderful that we’re still at it, and remember a song or two from our old, richer repertory.
Played music for 45+ years professionally. (bass Guitar) semi retired now and I know exactly what you mean….I still want to do what I used to do but the fingers and hands yell for mercy sometimes….Chet plays this piece very nicely!
One of my favorite Chet performances. My fingernails grow too thin for tremolo fingerstyle and I tried plastic fingerpicks but they feel unnatural. I should arrange this song for our uke club.
