Joan Baez. Really? Joan frickin’ Baez? WTF? How did Joan Baez get in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Who’s next? The Kingston Trio? The Lettermen? The New Christy Minstrels? At least they had Kenny Rogers who was in the First Edition an actual rock group, but Joan Baez? What a frickin’ joke.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been taken over by SJWs and as you know, everything they touch they destroy. Last year they inducted NWA, a rap group. First off, rap is not rock and roll and second rap is not music.
I watched part of the show on Saturday night but not all of it because the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has become a disgrace to rock and roll.
They did finally get around to inducting Yes and how fitting was it that it was Rush, who had been spurned for so many years introduced Yes. It was also cool to see Geddy Lee play the bass on Roundabout. I saw Bill Bruford was inducted as their drummer. Didn’t see if Alan White, who has played drums for the band far longer than Bruford was inducted as well. Neither of them played drums in the two songs Yes performed.
Nice to see Journey made it as well.
Tupac? WTF? Tupac? JHFC! It’s not the Rap Hall of Fame it’s the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Another whiff.
Too bad sumpin’ created to honor the greats of rock and roll has gone downhill so fast.
Joan Baez got in because she helped shape Rock back in the day. NWA got in because they are where Rap was forking off of Rock. I can understand both of those.
But Tupac? I’m with you – RAP HOF sure, but Rock? NFW!
With all due respect, Guy Lombardo, Lawrence Welk and Paul Whiteman would have more relevance in the r&r hall of fame than Joan Baez or NWA. No forks, little influence. Blues to Motown to soul to disco to rap, black music has gone down the shitter the same as country music. Really can find great black artists that could gain entry into r& me hall of fame, but GOC is right, SJW have taken over and thus marginalizes all the other great bands achievements
Sorry, Joan Baez had absolutely nothing to do with shaping rock “back in the day”. Folk music? Sure. Protest music? OK. Rock? Nope. Dylan, OTOH, did contribute to rock. Rap forked off rock? Once again, nope. Nothing to do with rock. BTW, I lived, “back in the day”. I attended a Joan Baez concert with one of my girlfriends. Great singer.
I guess they need a nagger music Hall of Fame😃
Who would visit it and why? We can get mugged just about any alley.
Alex Lifeson’s portion of Rush’s acceptance speech is classic; he pantomimed and “blah-blah-blahed” the whole thing. The dude’s really a very funny guy.
My motto has always been “rap is crap”.
Rap, like modern country music, takes relatively little talent. Take a look at Kanye West. The rap crowd thinks the guy is so talented, but in reality, he’s a talentless POS.
HOF? Who needs it. My HOF is in my head.
You hit it perfectly, Shawn. The HOF in my head is all I need.
Let’s not forget Rockabilly, too. Ol’ Jerry Lee Lewis and George Jones opened some doors there.
Rap is just disco with shitty lyrics.
No longer of any meaning or relevance to me anymore. They turned it into a joke and ran the idea into the ground. I have heard stories of corruption as well. To bad, they had to ruin it for so many. I agree with you on this one Denny.
Rest assured it’ll get worse file this one under the category of the fundamental transformation of America. It’s gradual but it’s working like a charm just look at the new criteria to become an NFL football playa now. You must be black have a faked college record goofy stupid name talk like you have your fist in your yap utilize Ebonics in place of roper diction and annunciation. You must have a Rolex diamond earrings and gode teef. You must have an upcoming court date to answer assault charges (again) and above all you must have a beautiful White wife with no standards what so ever. Then you can be in the new NFL and White men will fawn all over you and shower you with millions even in you’re a waste product at being a productive asset to your team.
One of the greatest sounds was the “Cars”. Not in the Hall of Fame. Why not?
There is no endeavor beyond the reach of political correctness and the war for social justice. We MUST be indoctrinated to insure correct thought processes and to eliminate any vestiges of raaaacism. Any concepts, beliefs, precepts, behavior patterns or opinions other than those approved by self appointed overseers MUST be suppressed by any & all means available. Resistance is futile. Go forth and do not offend.
Anytime you substitute social justice for the laws of natural selection your going to swap shit for cream and pretend there is no difference!
I never was in favor of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame being located in Cleveland Ohio. It should have been located in Memphis Tennessee right next door to Sun Records .
Everybody knows about Elvis Presley , Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash & Roy Orbison having started their careers there among many white early rock & Roll pioneers but Sun Records was also the leading recording studio in the early days for many many black R&B as well as Delta Blues performers who went on to fame in R&R in Chicago, Detroit & Nashville.
Negro Blues was probably the origin for most of what came to be known as Rock & Roll , ask the British artists who brought the sound back to the United States in the 1960`s like the Rolling Stones , The Animals & Eric Clampton who also brought popularity, recognition & money to forgotten Black artists like Howling Wolf or Mississippi Fred Mcdowell.
Anyway that`s my two cents worth & I consider today`s Rap Culture to be an insult to what the Negro pioneer performers developed , perfected & was highjacked by white artists.
I do honor Elvis for having given credit to the Black artists he learned from & when recording their songs made sure royalties were paid to them.
Long Live Real Rock & roll !
I saw Baez at Jazz Fest in NOLA years ago. I had to walk away, it was so depressing. Every song was introduced with some sad story about how the U S government starved the Indian, stole their land, or other injustices that today’s poor folks have to endure. It got too overwhelming for fest goers out for a fun day. Is there a clinically depressed HOF?
When Joan Baez was quite young she cut an album titled “Joan Baez in San Francisco”. It was apparent from the tracks that she didn’t know whether she was a rock singer or a folk singer. (It was awful). I believe her only commercial hit was “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”, not exactly a rock standard. Love her or hate her, she was very influential during the 1960s and 1970s, but Rock and Roll? I don’t think so.
If you’ve never been to the RRHOF you owe it to yourself to go and spend at least a day. They have exhibits tracing the roots of R&R all the way from the bluesmen of the 20’s and 30’s. There are the city exhibits like LA, SF, Detroit, NY, London, and even Memphis that showcase all the artists that called them home.
The costumes (damn, David Bowie was a peanut!), the instruments, the hand-written lyrics, and all the other accouterments of rock & roll. Especially interesting is the HOF wall with etched autographs of all the inductees.
The Gizzips have been there a few times and it’s well worth the trip.
No Kansas. No Stephenwolf. No Three Dog Night.
The RRHOF is dead to me, Dead I SAY!
(well, at least they finally inducted the Electric Light Orchestra this year, finally.)
But, still, they are dead to me until they put in at least Kansas. And Stephenwolf. And Three Dog Night. Dead. Until. Then.
