New Grill

After seventeen years, my old grill had to be retired. I finally had it hauled away on Monday along with the rest of the junk on my patio. I also ordered a new grill and it was delivered on Tuesday. It came in a box. Crap! I have to put it together. So, today, I got halfway through the assembly. Alas, I can’t lift the actual grill itself onto the frame. It sez it requires two people. I could attempt it and prolly get it onto my knees and then lift it onto the frame, but with my luck, I would prolly mess it up. So, my good buddy Wahoo is coming over on Saturday to finish the assembly and we’ll christen the grill with some nice thick juicy steaks and a good bottle of wine where we’ll toast the memory of his departed wife Jeanella.

    Great Denny!

As an avid Grill-A-Holic, BBQ/Smokin’ fanatic I gotta’ ask, what kind of grill did ya’ get? Charcoal? Electric? Propane? I’ve got ’em all and each type is unique from the other.

By the way, there are many stores that will assemble and deliver for a reasonable charge. Lowe’s and Sears come to mind locally. I bought my Weber from a local, family owned, store and they did it for free.

      • Good choice!

That’s the one I should have bought. Mine is a 3 burner Weber Genesis and it really is too big for just the two of us. After 8 years of use I’ve only had to replace the “Flavorizer Bars”.

A few words of advice though; If it is to remain outside in the elements, spring for a good all-weather cover. And, put a screen covering over all of the vent holes and louvers to keep spiders from building nests in the gas lines via the gas line air vents.

I cut fabric screen pieces and trimmed and glued them in place over every opening beneath the burner area itself. However, I had to use a heavier, more heat resistant, screen and secure it with twisted wire anywhere near the heat.

Since the grill isn’t fully assembled yet, the screen covering should be a lot easier to do for you then it was on my already assembled grill.

If it wasn’t for the fact that I use my Weber all Winter too I’d either put it in the garage or place a few trusty Hedge Apples in it to ward off the spiders.

        • I never covered my old grill (pain in the ass putting it on and taking it off) and it lasted 17 years outside. This grill will prolly outlive me. The old one was a Weber with a side burner which I never used. It was larger than I needed.

      • Congratulations on the new grill, Denny. Back in 2010, I went online bought a Weber Summit E-420, had it drop-shipped to the house. Was a double win, free shipping from the warehouse and, it screwed the state of Michigan out of $78 in sales tax. It’s in use at least 3 – 4 nights a week, both summer and winter. The sonofagun is still like new. Very good product.

With that being said, I’ve now moved into charcoal this year. You’re right, much more flavorful and, a more enjoyable experience. With cutting the final strings of TheCunt from my life, I really enjoy hanging out with family, friends and the time involved that charcoal grilling makes it more of an outdoor event.

Tho, when the snow starts flying the gas grill will likely resume its normal use.

  2. Hey Denny;

For a second I was thinking that you went”Urban” on us and put “bling” on your teeth that the urban dwellers like to have. Then I realized that you probably was talking “Propane” grill. Having a gas grill is cool to have, especially in the summer time.

  3. Could you post a picture if you ever get around to roastin’ nuts on your grill? I’d especially enjoy seein’ Obummer’s ‘n’ McLame’s.

  4. I have a Perfect Flame 4×1 all SS Grill …4 individual main burner s & 1 side burner. Yes it is a propane model but charcoal/wood pellets in a container on the top rack does a good job providing the Charcoal effect.
I bought it at Lowe`s in 2002 fully assembled & brought it home in the back of my Pickup truck……pre- assembled was a smart Move!
Like all grill s, cleaning the grates with SS rods was a pain in the ass but I had new 1/4 thick flat plate SS grates made which allow me to clean 95% of the residue after barbecue in minutes with a steel spatula …almost like a restaurant griddle.
I paid extra for an all SS model but today its like brand new & will never rust out .It has outlived every other grill I ever owned. Probably bury it with me when I move on.
I have been experimenting with that new Copper Square Pan for mesquite shrimp on the barbie…seems to work very well ,going to try mesquite pork chops next.Clean up is a breeze.
Happy Grilling & while a fine wine is nice{“Wifes favorite” …I like a good import chilled beer better.

  5. Enjoy the new grill, Denny! …if I was anywhere near you, I’d offer to come over and assemble it for you…then do a functional check with a couple of steaks, accompanied with an adult beverage or two…
I have to tell a grill story which I think you might get a kick out of… A couple of years ago, when the Stainless Steel propane grills were just becoming popular around here, there was one on the side of the road…I couldn’t believe it!…it looked brand new…why would it be being trashed already?!… the lady of the house was outside so I asked to confirm if they were throwing it out…she said something to the effect of “my husband says it doesn’t work…if you want it, take it away!”…so being a hands-on guy, and knowing that all of the gas plumbing and control stuff can be totally replaced for about $50, I snagged it on the spot, loaded it in my vehicle, and felt pretty smug about it too, rather about the same as if I had found $400 on the street…
When I got it home, and looked it over more closely, it was indeed clean…it looked like it had had only about one tank of gas run through it, and since the one in its lower cabinet was empty, I swapped in my spare tank, and tried firing it up (even the battery on the push-button electric starter was still good!). Result: It fired right up(!)… and it has been doing faithful service on my patio, charring mammal flesh when called upon, for what must be going on 5 years now…I jokingly considered sending off a thank-you note…
…but ever since then, I’m wondering to myself, why they trashed in the first place…maybe the SS didn’t fit their backyard decor…and then I answered my own question…I drove by the same house last fall, and what do I see?…a Hellera for Pres poster! Yup!…so now I’m convinced that in addition to having a mental disorder of liberalism, the fool Dims were too stupid to know they needed replace the Propane tank when it was empty either…I love America!

    Cheers from Connecticut!
