AlphaDelta sent me this story.
We are right at the typical warm water point of the season here in the Great Lakes. Comparing last year’s water temperatures to right now shows us the Great Lakes are colder than last year.
On average I would say any one spot is between three and five degrees colder than this time last year.
WTF? How can that be? I thought the earth was warming? Shouldn’t the Great Lakes be boiling by this time of year?
I’ve indicated some of the surface water temperatures of various regions on the Great Lakes. Southern Lake Michigan has water temperatures between 70 degrees and 74 degrees right now, compared to 73 degree to 77 degrees on August 21, 2016.
Northern Lake Huron was 70 degrees to 74 degrees this time last year. Now it has surface water temperatures in the mid-60s to upper-60s.
Lake Superior’s coldest pocket of water right now measures 57 degrees to 60 degrees. Last year it was still chilly, but at 60 degrees to 63 degrees.
Lake Erie usually has temperatures over 80 degrees at this time of year. Not this year so far. The surface temperatures are now 73 degrees to 77 degrees.
Lake Ontario had warmed up well into the 70s last year, while this year it is barely into the 70s.
But isn’t this gonna be the hottest year on record? That’s what NOAA and all of the other global warming people keep telling us. Why are the temperatures of the Great Lakes dropping?
Will this have an impact on fall and winter?
When we have much warmer than normal Great Lakes water temperatures, the warm water acts to modify or warm cold air masses dropping south from Canada. So the opposite is true when Great Lakes water temperatures are cooler. It’s not that the water will make the air colder, but it will allow cold air masses to more easily take over the Great Lakes region.
Now this doesn’t mean we will have an early fall and an early winter in the Great Lakes. The overall air temperature pattern and upper-air pattern could always flip-flop to become warmer than average. We’ve seen that several times in fall in the past decade.
But if the current upper-air flow continues, we are probably heading toward a slightly earlier than normal fall, and yes- an earlier than normal start to winter.
But somehow 2017 will be the warmest year on record and this guy is nothing but a climate change denier.
I can tell you that right now we are cooler than normal here in Northern Illinois. Today it was a high of 71 degrees, tonight the forecast is for a low of 47 degrees. So it is cooler than normal here. The cold spell is supposed to continue for about another week or so. So far this year we have had a below normal August.
It’s already the fourth week of August and we’ve gone to the beach only once this summer. Here in northeastern Wisconsin the wind off Lake Michigan precludes going to the beach unless the temp is at least 80; and the water is still cold, even with the assist from the nuclear plants and the run-off from the Milwaukee/Chicago zone to the south.
Check out Scott Adams (“Dilbert” fame) and his recent take on Global Warming, especially the Paris Climate Agreement on YouTube.
Here in the woods of Minnesota I’ve already had my flannel shirt on a couple times. Will have to bring in an extra cord of wood for this winter season.
We’re in the low 50’s this morning in Chicago. Interesting to note that the lake is at least 4′ higher than it was 5 years ago.
A climatista’s bad attempt at doublespeak.
AGW is a bust.

And now we’re gearing up to build the wall.
The Donald didn’t get here by telling everyone his game plan.
I’m not tired of winning – yet.
No wonder they’re desperate to impeach him.
From what I can tell they are determined to it by hook or by crook. They want his scalp on their liberal wall.
Or die trying…
Bwahahahahahahaa!
I love to ask people here in Erie who believe in climate change one question ….When was the last or most recent year the temperature in Erie Pa reached or exceeded 100 degrees ? I have yet to get a correct answer within 5 years of that year.
The answer is 1988 on June 25th when the temperature reached 100 degrees.
When I ask one more question …when was the first year the official Temperature here in Erie reached or exceeded 100 degrees? So far the closest guess was more then 50 years too soon.
The answer is also June 25th 1988 as this is the only date Erie officially hit the century mark temperature wise.
Actually this is in dispute because some weather professionals say Erie never did officially reach 100 degrees …only 99 degrees.
So much for climate/temperature change & cheers to the stupidity of climate change fanatics.
Here is August in Texas and I have recorded on two day at my home where the temperature broke a 100 degrees. At this precise moment it is 75 degrees with the weather service calling for a high of 85.
What the real bitch is – I just had a new AC unit installed.
Global warming; unquestionably the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind.
conjured up by, administered by and aggressively promoted by those seeking money and political power.
August 25, and it’s forty-eight degrees this morning. What this summer has meant- on the days it hasn’t rained, it’s been blowing like a motherfucker, which alternates every other day. Boating season? A total waste of money, a complete bust. Maintenance projects? Shot square in the ass. Could not string together three dry days to stain the house and decks. Fuck it.
The trees are already changing and, leafs are dropping. So are the smallest acorns I’ve ever seen. Fall is here, and as I suspect, a real miserable wet winter on its way. The only upside I’m looking for is a few days of ‘Indian summer’ to yank the boats, lift, and the dock out.
Just got back from taking a walk this late afternoon. Had to wear a light jacket. This is August 25th. The mosquitoes were all out in full force, swarming over everybody that was outside today. Our city has sprayed twice to cut down the population. Because of the rains they are real bad this year. But it is cool outside now, tonight they are saying a low of 61 degrees here in Northern Illinois.
My friggen third-grade science class taught us about the three states of
water and the water cycle back in 1965! Al “The dork” Gore actually
tried to pass off glacial ice breaking off into the sea in the height of
Winter in Alaska as evidence of “Global warming.” The Polar ice cap
melts in Summer and returns six months later. This is not rocket
science! The current generation of miseducated morons take the
words of Gore, Bill Nye (The Actor Guy,) and other nitwits like Michael
Mann and Neil DeGrasse Tyson as gospel.
In the last few days we have had overnight frost warnings here in the U.P. already.
