Altho’ there are many worthy candidates this week, I will have to give it to the beauzeaus at MS-ESPN. They were nominated by my sister and many readers. What did they do? They removed an announcer for an upcoming UVA football game for having the name Robert Lee. What makes it even more stupid is that he is an Asian. My old blog buddy Kim Crawford (not the winemaker from down under – alas) from the old Velociworld blog who is now on Facebook came up with a good solution. Change his name to Lobert Ree. That would fit with his Asian heritage.

This is really getting fucking ridiculous. When are we gonna quit pandering to the 13% of our population that seems to have been born offended? After the Confederate flags are gone and all of the Confederate War memorials have been torn down what will offend them next? When there is fear that an announcer with the name Robert Lee will cause riots we have totally passed the bounds of sanity.

We are right at the typical warm water point of the season here in the Great Lakes. Comparing last year’s water temperatures to right now shows us the Great Lakes are colder than last year.

On average I would say any one spot is between three and five degrees colder than this time last year.

WTF? How can that be? I thought the earth was warming? Shouldn’t the Great Lakes be boiling by this time of year?

I’ve indicated some of the surface water temperatures of various regions on the Great Lakes. Southern Lake Michigan has water temperatures between 70 degrees and 74 degrees right now, compared to 73 degree to 77 degrees on August 21, 2016.

Northern Lake Huron was 70 degrees to 74 degrees this time last year. Now it has surface water temperatures in the mid-60s to upper-60s.

Lake Superior’s coldest pocket of water right now measures 57 degrees to 60 degrees. Last year it was still chilly, but at 60 degrees to 63 degrees.

Lake Erie usually has temperatures over 80 degrees at this time of year. Not this year so far. The surface temperatures are now 73 degrees to 77 degrees.

Lake Ontario had warmed up well into the 70s last year, while this year it is barely into the 70s.

But isn’t this gonna be the hottest year on record? That’s what NOAA and all of the other global warming people keep telling us. Why are the temperatures of the Great Lakes dropping?

Will this have an impact on fall and winter?

When we have much warmer than normal Great Lakes water temperatures, the warm water acts to modify or warm cold air masses dropping south from Canada. So the opposite is true when Great Lakes water temperatures are cooler. It’s not that the water will make the air colder, but it will allow cold air masses to more easily take over the Great Lakes region.

Now this doesn’t mean we will have an early fall and an early winter in the Great Lakes. The overall air temperature pattern and upper-air pattern could always flip-flop to become warmer than average. We’ve seen that several times in fall in the past decade.

But if the current upper-air flow continues, we are probably heading toward a slightly earlier than normal fall, and yes- an earlier than normal start to winter.

But somehow 2017 will be the warmest year on record and this guy is nothing but a climate change denier.

WTF is going on with the Navy? How can these collisions happen? As I have stated before, any decent Navy radarman can determine the course, speed, and CPA (closest point of approach) of any given radar contact within six minutes. At least, that’s the way it was fifty tears ago when I was in the Navy and stood radar watches and I wasn’t even a radarman. I was an electronics technician. This information is immediately relayed to the bridge on every single contact.

Have things changed since I was in the Navy? I guess they have. Maybe the Navy is spending tooo much time on Diversity (All Hail Diversity!) awareness training and sensitivity training and less time on seamanship. Geez! This ship is the real Navy. I was in the Gator Navy where discipline was slack but we wouldn’t have let this crap happen. This isn’t rocket science.

From what I heard of the John S. McCain incident, since this was a busy area, the captain was prolly on the bridge when this happened. If so, it was on him and his career is over. Even if he wasn’t, his career is over since he’s responsible for everything that happens. Were the radarmen in CIC incompetent? Was the officer of the deck incompetent? His (or her) career is prolly over as well or would a woman officer be treated differently? We certainly can’t be mean to women can we?
That would make the Navy sexist and insensitive to the needs of women.

The Department of the Navy needs to be shook up and the Navy needs to get back to its main mission, patrolling the seas and not social engineering. That goes for the Army and Air Force as well. What we are seeing is the result of eight years of Obungler and the touchy feely bullshit introduced into the military. Standards have obviously dropped along with training and discipline. These are dangerous times and we don’t have time for anything but training people on how to do their jobs. All the other stuff is bullshit and a waste of time and money.

It came and it went and it was pretty awesome but now the hype and hoopla is over.

I drove up to Columbia to watch it. I was able to stay with my sister. Columbia was in the path of the totality. This was to be the first total eclipse I would be able to see in the 70 years of my life so I was looking forward to it. I was worried about the weather since thunderstorms, were in the forecast. No problem. There were some clouds but not where we were.

My sister was prepared and had got eclipse glasses for all of us. She had some friends who had come down from North Carolina to watch the eclipse as well. We drove over to a park by the Lake Carolina dam to get a better view of the event. Naturally there were a lot of people there watching as well. Party time!

It was interesting that as the moon was almost in front of the sun, the street lamps turned on. Then, it was on us. Totality. What a sight! The temperature dropped. It was in the 90’s but we really noticed how much cooler it got. I was expecting it to get much darker than it did. We only saw two “stars” which were both planets. One was Venus and I think the other was Jupiter.

There were plenty of dogs at the park and none of them howled. I didn’t hear any crickets either, prolly because there were too many people there going “oooh” and “aaaah”. Suddenly, there was a brilliant flash of light on the right side of the eclipse signaling totality was over. Time to put the eclipse glasses back on.

It was certainly worth the drive up to Columbia South Carolina to see this awesome event. The next American total eclipse will be in 2024. After this one, my sister wants to travel to Carbondale Illinois to see it.

I was gonna give Johnny Maverick McRINO and Mittens Romneycare a joint award this week for their virtue signaling and bashing of Trump. Ya notice when a prominent Dimocrat gets in trouble they circle the wagons and support him? Robert Byrd took no flack for being a member of the KKK. BJ Clinton’s crimes were far worse than Nixon’s. I could go on. But for every Trump controversy there are the same asshole “Republicans” joining with the Dimocrats in bashing Trump. We have jerks like McRINO, Mittens, Sasse, Flack, Graham, Paul Ryno and many others working to undermine the president. JHFC! The man won an historic election and one of his major accomplishments was keeping the Supreme Court from going far left. With the left’s assault on the First Amendment (and make no mistake, that’s what Charlottesville was really about) keeping the Supreme Court conservative was one of the most important results of his victory. The left is trying to silence dissent by labeling it “hate speech”. They not only want to take away our guns but our freedom of speech.

And speaking of hate speech, there has been far more from the left ever since the election. Madonna wanted to blow up the White House. Or maybe she just wanted to blow the White House. Who knows with that dried up slut? We’ve had people call for the assassination of Trump. And that brings me to this Asshole of the Week, who was nominated by my sister. Her name is Maria Chapelle-Nadal The hyphenated last name should tell you all you need to know. And if you guessed her race correctly, kudos to you although that wasn’t too hard.

A Missouri lawmaker is under mounting pressure to resign after she said on social media she hopes President Trump is assassinated, following his response to violence at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville.

Democratic state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal went on her personal Facebook page Thursday morning to vent two days after the president blamed “both sides” for the brutality.

Actually, both sides were responsible for the brutality and anyone who disputes that is either a leftist or an idiot. And truth be told, the Antifas and BLMs were more responsible. They were the ones who started the violence. They were bused in solely for that purpose. They wanted violence to break out so the right would be blamed and they could bash Trump. If they didn’t want violence, why did they bring cement Coke cans, pepper spray, homemade flame throwers, and clubs?

“I put up a statement saying, ‘I really hate Trump. He’s causing trauma and nightmares.’ That was my original post,” she told the Kansas City Star. The Facebook post received many responses, Chappelle-Nadal said, and to one she replied, “I hope Trump is assassinated!”

How’s that for hate speech? She wants the president of the United States to be murdered. There was an outrage here in Georgia when a Gwinnett County commissioner called racist pig John Lewis a racist pig. An ethics committee was formed to try to throw him out of office. The mayor of Atlanta tried to get him fired from his job. But this black bitch thinks it’s OK to wish murder on Trump for speaking the truth. Why not? She’s a protected species. Blacks can mouth all of the hate they want and then hide behind Slavery®.

Chappelle-Nadal later explained that she didn’t actually wish harm to come to Trump but wrote it out of frustration.

Wow! What an excuse! Here’s a better excuse. You’re a racist black bitch who hates white people.

“I didn’t mean what I put up. Absolutely not,” Chappelle-Nadal told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “It was in response to the concerns that I am hearing from residents of St. Louis.”

Meaning the racist black people of St. Louis who elected your sorry ass.

“There are people who are afraid of white supremacists,” she added. “There are people who are having nightmares. There are people who are afraid of going out in the streets. It’s worse than even Ferguson.”

Holy fucking shit! How many white supremacists do you think there are in this country you stupid bint? Not near as many as racist white hating blacks. You and your constituents are booger eatin’ moh-rons! Missouri Dimocrats fearing a backlash from this racist hate speech are calling for her resignation. If the Republicans are smart (BWAHAHAHAHAHA – who am I kidding) they will tie this woman to every Missouri Dimocrat including Claire McCaskill.

Trump’s comments about Charlottesville “make it easier for racists to be racists,” she told the Kansas City Star. “As long as I have a voice, I’m going to talk about the damage is creating in this nation.”

And she sure is proving that “easier to be racists” comments by her provocative hate speech. She deleted the comment but has refused to apologize and refuses to resign. She has earned the AOTW Award.
