Howsa ’bout some Scottish hard rock? Here’s my favorite Nazareth song. Here’s my problem with one guitar bands. They rely on a lot of overdubbing in the studio. Then, when they play live they cannot replicate the sound. The producer really should have done a better job in overdubbing the lead guitar part on this cut. Led Zeppelin did some overdubbing on their first album like on Bring it on home. There is one part where Page adds a higher guitar part that sounds good when there are two guitars, but when he goes high without the low part when playing it live it sounds weird. That’s why I like two guitar bands. Less overdubbing.
A classic song. I first heard it via a cover version by the German thrashers, Artillery. A great song from a great record!
Yeah, Jimmy Page fancied himself a writer/arranger as much as a guitar player; that’s why he often essentially wrote two versions of a song — one for recording and the other for live performance. The studio version of “Whole Lotta Love” sounds way different live — even the basic guitar riff is different. His live playing has always been much more loose and energetic, even sloppy.
Oh YEAH! This song rocks! Nazareth were best known for the pop hit “Love Hurts”, but rock fans knew this band could crank it up with the best of them. Thanks for posting!
