My sister and bil drove down from Columbia South Carolina yesterday. She was here to attend a presentation today by one of the foremost authorities on the type of cancer she has.
The good news. Atlanta closed all the schools around noon and I guess everyone let their employees off early as well. Because of that, when they hit Atlanta around 4:00 PM there was virtually no traffic.
The bad news. As we were going out to dinner, she got a message on her phone that said the presentation was canceled. The doctor was flying in from Boston and either there were problems in Boston or problems in Atlanta so he couldn’t make it. So they made the trip for nothing. On the upside, they did get to see me and I put them to work organizing the bookshelves in my library. My sister took these pictures of the global warming at GOC Central.
This one was from last night.
It continued to snow last night, which was a good excuse for me to light a fire in the fireplace and for my bil and I to sip some good cognac, Delamain Vesper.
My sister took this picture this morning.

Overall we got between 3 and 4 inches of snow. This is really unheard of in early December in Atlanta.

Watch out for that black ice. …. Remember when Boortz discussed the university professor’s claim of being offended that calling it black ice was racist?
Better get that snow shoveled before your HOA sends you a nastygram.
I am near Melbourne FL after heading south on my boat for nine hours today, wearing every coat I have aboard, a stocking cap and ski gloves. I grew up in WI so cold weather is no stranger, but this is nuts!
Stay warm.
Denny, very nice pictures your sister took. For Atlanta, that is a lot of snow. I have heard Mobile, Alabama has received 1 inch which is a the first time sine they starting keeping records around 1846? In any case the south is getting hit with some very cold , snowy weather. And watch out for the ice, Black or otherwise, its the reason you can lose control of your car and have an accident. Take care and everyone watch out for that Global warming.
And today, we had a lovely 60 above here in Calgary, AB without the accompanying chinook wind storm. I had to inform the millennials that this was nothing unusual. It also happened here in the 1930’s, 1960’s and in the 1970’s.
Here in the Sierra foothills I ain’t seen any snow so far this season. Past years we may’ve had a sprinkling as early as Thanksgiving and other times we can go all winter with not enough snow to even stick at my place.
Nice pictures. Hope all goes well for your sister.
Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing. We got about 2″ here in Virginia with nothing sticking on the roads. Guess we’re too far north for global warming.
Lovely house, Denny.
Pretty good taste for a dinosaur sysprog.
Best wishes to your sister. I hope the doctor will put his presentation online for the people who need it. The sooner he shares his knowledge, the better it is.
We still have no snow in Toronto. Cold and very windy. My walker and I can’t stay on the ground. I’m not going out. Not ready to fly up yet! When I lived in Houston, in the mid-sixties, it snowed once. People got really panicky. The Highway was closed for a few hours, and the schools for 3 days. The food stores were raided. Coming from Northern Canada, I tried hard not to laugh. But it’s actually very dangerous to drive on icy road without snow tires. The photos of your house are very nice. A bit like fairy land. But be careful, Denny. Snow is friendly only to kids.
The presentation has been rescheduled to the Spring. My sister has Waldenstroms, a very rare form of cancer. It is kept under control by various drugs. She will prolly doe of sumpin’ else before Waldenstroms gets her.
There are times I think I would like to move back to St. Louis but then I remember the weather is much worse than Atlanta. If I want snow, I go to Colorado.
Being in a logging company run by city bred accountants(the rural/urban divide becomes startling clear) of course most of our logging equipment is high up in the hills. Luckily they did move my road building excavator down to another heading but they had to have a cat plow three feet of snow out of the way first. That’s a fair amount even for here early in the winter/end of fall time slot. 🙂 Scott Adam rules. He was right,ANY kind of company, doesn’t matter what their market or product, can be ridiculed the same way. Don’t know how many times I’ve seen an almost direct situation from the ” Dilbert” strip or books played out by management in the bush here 🙂
