I’m Alive!

Betcha y’all thought sumpin’ happened to me. it did. Took another spill on Tuesday due to faulty equipment. Challenge Aspen will hear about this. Not that it matters since I’m done skiing. Two brain bleeds are enough. The third time would be the charm. Got up and had double vision. Went to Aspen Valley Hospital and they took a CT scan and since they don’t have a neurosurgeon on staff, I got an ambulance ride down to St. Antony’s Hospital outside Denver. Grand Junction is closer but Denver is on the way home so Ryan and Sherry could pick me up on the way home. Had another scan yesterday and there was no change which is good news. Checked out today an we’re staying in a hotel in Denver and will start home tomorrow. Got CD’s of my scans and medical records and will make an appointment with my primary care physician when I get home. More later.

  1. Other than that, how’s your trip been going?

I figure if you’re healthy enough to blog…

Sorry you gotta give up skiing.

Denny, so glad to hear you’re OK. Sorry to hear ’bout your messed-up ski trip, I have read how much you have looked forward to it and enjoyed it so for many years.

But, I gotta’ tell ya’, I have to parrot what the previous commenter’s have said – I too thought something musta’ happened since we didn’t get your daily report of the festivities. But I didn’t dare say anything aloud or in print.

    Hang in their!

  4. Hey Denny;

Glad you are ok, I was wondering because we got used to the daily reports about your adventures or misadventures. It bites that you have to consider giving up skiing, Perhaps you will reevaluate next year.

  5. I was worried. I can’t even handle stairs safely anymore. Was looking at a house, friend wanted outlets in an upstairs room. Made it up fine, but when I turned to go down I lost my feet and smacked every last one of those steps on the 1.2 second journey back to the main floor. Head is fine, neck is hell.
Be safe and have an uneventful trip home. If you can find time to stop in Kansas, I know a Hibachi grill that aint bad…

  6. Sure am glad to hear you’re gonna be okay. We weren’t there so you can tell us whatever wild story you want to about what happened. Maybe a bear came runnin’ outa the woods and ran right over you, or a beautiful young snowboarder in a bikini was bein’ dragged off by a mountain lion and as you wrestled the sweet young thing away from the savage beast you slid over a 300 foot cliff, or Cankles and Huma tried to have you bumped off… use your imagination and we’ll probably believe anything.

  7. I’ve been praying for the last two days. As much for my comfort as for your safety. So worrisome! Hope your primary care physician finds that all is well. Give us some news. Happy that it is your last skiing trip. You can still do so many other things that are fun and not so dangerous. Like visiting Canada! Glad your family is with you for the trip back home.

  8. Get better soon, found you as the only one I could find fisking Molly Ivans around 2003 and been a reader ever since.

  9. I prefer to board in fresh, deep powder. Falling in 15 inches is actually a blast although sometimes it’s a real bitch to get back up. Glad you’re OK.

  10. Denny,
I’m sorry this happened. We all know how much joy you get each year when you make this trip. Glad to hear that you are alright and nothing hurt but maybe feelings. But, maybe this will give you more time to scuba dive. Have a safe trip home.

  11. Denny I use to sky….skee….sik….syk…..damn it , with out a helmet in the sixties. Wow what a spectacular way to leave Aspen , Lights and siren from Glenwood Springs to Denver . A cool sight through the tunnel.

  12. Denny, I’m glad and relieved that you’re OK. Use what’s left of your abused brain to find other ways of having big fun. Bummer having to break a tradition, but we’d rather keep you.

    Tom

  13. Alright, WTF is going on here? Denny is well, he’s had a great trip out west and we’ve been deprived of Saturday Boobage. I tell you what, first it was the ToeJam ban, and now there’s no titties. I feel like I’m getting cheated here looking for my Saturday morning entertainment.

    • I hear ya, rayvet. I was guessin’ that since our esteemed host was seein’ double, we might get a set of twins with nice twins, so we could see double just like Denny.

  14. Humour: Intact
    Rationality: Intact
Sense of adventure: Still there, just recalibrated
Fan base: Concerned for Denny’s good health

Bummer about the setbacks, good to read the resolve is still there.

Thank you for the update and do take care of yourself. Safe travels back.

  15. Sorry to hear about your trip being ruined and the misery you are going through, old friend. Praying for a full recovery and lots of good luck after this! Get better, and we will miss your work here. Cordially, Alfred

  16. Beautiful country to drive through. But a “bitch” to lay prone in an ambulance.
Up the Frying Pan River is our old,old homestead.
I hope you recover quickly and completely, because you tell the complete truth in your knowledgeable blogs we all wait for,,,,

  17. Sorry to hear of your accident. St. Antony is a good hospital, at least it was 43 years ago when my eldest was born. I took a spill in the last “snowstorm” in Virginia and am on a cane for the moment, praying it isn’t permanent. Getting older sucks. Hope you feel better soon.

  18. Denny….sorry to hear about your accident & very glad you will recover . I understand all to well as I missed the entire deer season last fall due to sudden weakness in right leg & calf which affected balance & ability to walk over woodland terrain without taking a tumble. Bummer!
I had x-rays /cat scan here in Erie & again at Cleveland Clinic. No cause found but 11 week therapy regimen has me back to about 98 %. Second series of tests with a Cat scan & for good measure a full body bone scan was done at Cleveland Clinic February 2, 2018. Again no evidence of any medical reason for weakness issue but since I passed this battery of tests with flying colors …..I am happy. It is a bitch to get old. Anyway take care my friend, take care.
