Really dark out there today. Not sure if it’s just that there’s no moon or that my eyes are goin dim. Could be a portent, I guess . . . I mean, Lance woke me up at 0220 needin to go out and I couldn’t get back to sleep after that. So I turned on the TV to check the weather and all I heard was “gun control!” discussions.
The thing is, of course, that we have a situation in which the FBI tried to assure a professional felon’s election to the presidency and when that failed it began working relentlessly to overthrow the guy who won it; and now everybody thinks it’s a good idea to surrender the right to private ownership of guns? As Hitler said, you don’t need any guns. Now, get on the train.
Seems to me that back when kids had rifles on racks in their pickups, nobody got shot in schools. What happened? Where I grew up, gun control was the idea of hitting what you were aiming at and not other stuff. And then after using the weapon, put it away where it won’t get rusty or stolen or played with by kids. That’s about all the control we needed.
After JFK and MLK and RFK were assassinated by use of firearms, the US came up with the Gun Control Act of 1968. That established the Federal Firearms Licensing system which put strict rules on places which sell guns. Mentally disturbed, criminal, and illegal migrant people were prohibited from buying guns. Kinda like that marvelous 18th Amendment idea: if we outlaw booze, nobody will get drunk and cause trouble; outlaw guns, nobody will ever get shot.
In the early 20th century, Turkey initiated national gun control. Soon thereafter, between 1915 and 1918, over one-and-a-half million Armenians, who were then unable to defend themselves, were exterminated. Then in 1939, Germany established firm gun control. In the next 6 years, 12 million people, half of which were Jews, were exterminated because they had no way to protect themselves from government.
Gun Control! It’s PEOPLE control. Remember how the left was furious and demanded gun control after Kate STeinle was murdered by an illegal immigrant? Yeah, me neither. And by the way, Mexico has some of the strictest gun control laws around. I don’t think private ownership of weapons is even possible there. But Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries with one of the highest murder rates in the world.
For some reason, with Chicago as the lone exception, coastal regions of the US, and especially the Northeast, tend to vote for globalism, gun control, protection of sexual deviancy and gender fluidity, and bigger government than the heartland/inland areas.

Somebody around 30 years ago had the brilliant idea to make schools in the US gun-free zones. Yeah, THERE was a good idea. Advertise it. I’d like to find that guy, I think it was a US senator, and ask him why is it that 9 out of 10 mass shootings have happened in places where guns are banned.
People insisting on abolition of private firearms is a lot like big-city business owners cheerleading for Don Vito, Sonny, and Michael Corleone. Hey, when somebody seriously wants somebody else dead, they’ll find a way to git ’er done. One year (think it was 2011 or so) according to FBI stats there were 322 killings with AR-15s, while at the same time almost 500 people were killed with HAMMERS!
I guess Murkans figger if you’re gonna go, might as well be quick with a .223 rather than a slow death by Louisville Slugger or a Stanley phillips head screwdriver.
I don’t pretend to have the solution to murder or gun deaths or any of that. I do know for a fact that when criminals are confident that a potential robbery or mugging victim is unarmed, they don’t even need a gun; a knife or a club will do nicely. “Gun-Free Zone” means happy hunting ground for thieves and psychos.
I also know that sensationalizing and romanticizing and rationalizing mass shootings by mentally unbalanced people causes a monkey-see/monkey-do ripple effect. If we stopped making such a big deal out of the occasional shooting, just let the locals cover it for their area and keep it out of the headlines nationally, we’d have fewer of ‘em.
Watched the defense attorney for Cruz, the Parkland shooter, the other day with her arm around the kid saying essentially that he’s a victim. Bullshit! Tell that to the fathers and mothers of dead kids. He’s an asshole, and has been for years
We have plenty of laws, but we still coddle lawbreakers. Criminals in Chicago or L.A. or St. Louis or Baltimore often never get caught. And if they do, they often get off on some technicality. And if somehow they’re indicted, they can still plea-deal for symbolic sentencing based on “extenuating circumstances” or snitching. If they ever make it to trial, their case might get thrown out for irregularities or unreliable witness statements or insufficient evidence or bleeding heart judges.
And if somehow they DO get convicted, the sentence often is light because the jails and prisons are full and the city is too cheap to outsource incarceration because all its revenues go to food stamps and welfare. Then if they actually get to prison, they get out with reduced time served because of crowding or amnesty or whatever.
There is no law that in se will prevent murder by violence. Hell, it’s already illegal to shoot people, stab people, bludgeon people, poison people . . . but it happens. What banning and confiscating weapons will accomplish is to embolden thugs and psychos and generate a black market in weapons as bad as what happened with hootch during prohibition.
Within the next few years I fully expect legislation which increases prices on ammo exponentially through punitive taxes and makes purchase of caps and powder illegal without a license, which will cost thousands. And what THAT will do is cause amateurs to start producing ammo and primers and powder and casings and guns that are unstable and unsafe to begin with.
Zip guns are pretty easy to make, and youtube has thousands of D-I-Ys on it for everything from .22s to 12 gauges. Ditto for gunpowder. There are even how-tos for how to make your own primers or recycle used ones using kitchen matches.
I’m gonna go find me somethin warm and solid to eat, like maybe a cow.

It is something that stopped happening: honor stopped happening. The teaching of moral principles stopped happening.
My father had a simple expression: “we don’t do that” and he would say it with such a stern countenance that every opportunity I heard it was like the laying of moral rails whose foundation went down to the center of the Earth and could not be removed. I knew with the certainty of gravity what he meant. I knew who the “we” were. Men. Our people. Our kind. Decent folks. And I was growing up to be one of the “we” There was a place for me in reality. A place that could not be filled unless I did “what we do” and didn’t do “what we don’t do” And my father was not the only one. It was pretty much standard in those days. At least among certain people.
Now kids grow up without a father and single mothers are useless to raise a male save for a pitiful mangina that should better turn in her genitals back to Nature for he’s not a man, and those few functioning fathers that are still out there are, many of them, clueless because their own fathers defaulted on their responsibilities to properly form them.

Yep gun free zones – translate into free fire area and soft targets. As for Biden – well perhaps there is a special place in heaven for him.
As for protecting the schools – round up a bunch of old Vets – let us prove our competence with firearms and put us in the schools to protect our kids and grand kids. I figure it like – two or three mean ass old veterans probably will go a dam sight further in protecting a school, the a frigging gutless rent cop or school district cop!
