Now we hear that without Slavery® and colonialism Wakanda would exist.
What if African countries had never been conquered and subjected to colonial rule? What if the global slave trade had never stolen 18 million Africans for export to other regions? Africa might look very much like the fictional country of Wakanda, brilliantly brought to life in the new “Black Panther” movie.
Only in your dreams dude.
“Black Panther” has set box-office records and garnered a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While some might enjoy any Marvel superhero action film with soaring special effects, others are particularly excited to see a big-budget film with a black director, cast and pro-black message — a full century after the first modern blockbuster action film, the infamously anti-black “Birth of a Nation.”
Like many professors of African politics, I was most excited to be able to finally “visit” Wakanda, a country I knew well from the Black Panther comic and have mentioned at the start of every introductory class I have taught for more than a decade.
Jeez! You must be a Black Studies professor.
Explain to me how a people who lived in the Stone Age in grass huts and hadn’t even discovered the wheel would be able to create a high tech city like Wakanda. Is this the kind of stuff you are teaching your students? You are delusional and you are deluding your students.
It wasn’t until Europeans colonized Africa that its inhabitants were brought out of the Stone Age. Then guess what happened? The Europeans turned the gummints over to the Africans and the countries declined. Big time.
Zimbabwe is Wakanda. Zimbabwe was once the “bread basket of Africa”. Then Mugabe took over and forced white farmers off their lands and gave the land to Africans who knew nothing about agriculture. Now Wakanda Zimbabwe has to import food. It is the basket case of Africa.
Africans are slow learners. In South Africa, the legislators just overwhelmingly voted to confiscate land from the white farmers and give the land to black Africans. How long do you think it will take before South Africa has to import food just like Wakanda Zimbabwe?
Of course we have our own Wakandas here in the United States. We have Detoilet, Newark, Birmingham, East St. Louis, and many other black run cities.
Here’s a question. If Wakanda is possible, why do we have so many Africans leaving Africa for places where white people live. Here’s another. Why haven’t you, professor, moved to Africa to help build Wakanda?
Put whites on an island and you get England. Put Asians on an island and you get Japan. Put Africans on an island and you get Wakanda Haiti.
