As you know, I banged my head skiing last January. This was the third time. This was actually the first time I hurt myself while actually skiing.
The first and most serious, which was a subdural hematoma, happened when someone ran into me down by the lift line. I fell over and banged my head. Had to be airlifted to St. Mary’s hospital in Grand Junction because Aspen General Hospital doesn’t have a neurosurgeon.
The second time, I fell over backwards in my wheelchair after exiting my rig and hit my head.
This time, I was actually skiing when I fell and boinked my head. Went to Aspen General again and got a CT-scan where it was determined that I had a subarachnoid hematoma. Once again, since Aspen General does not have a neurosurgeon, they gave me the choice of going to St. Mary’s in Grand Junction or St Anthony’s in Denver. I selected St. Anthony’s since it was on the way home and Ryan and Sherry could pick me up there. After 36 hours at St. Anthony’s they released me and told me to see my doctor back in Atlanta.
A few weeks after I got home, I saw my primary care physician who got me an appointment with a neurologist. She scheduled me for a CT-scan. I got the results last week. My head is back to normal, or at least what passes for normal in my world. My double vision went away a few weeks after I got home so I expected as much.
Ah, bon . . . c’est bon.
Great to hear Denny! But remember, at our age, the word “normal” is a subjective term.
That’s the good news we’ve been waiting to hear…. Roll on, Brother, Roll on!!
Great News
Good to hear. Take care of it now.
jack
From what I’ve seen you still have a lot of fight left in you.
If you start to go soft on the rat commie bastards then we’ll know something’s really wrong.
We’re all pullin’ for ya.
Outstanding news!
Normal? What’s that??? 🙂
Very good to hear. Thanks for sharing.
Helmet? Maybe?
I was wearing a helmet every time.
Don’t do a Sonny Bono on us, buddy.
Coherent – check.
Humor – check.
Back to single vision – check.
Follows through – check.
Thank you Denny for the update, glad you’re still on point and sharp as ever.
Really good to hear you’re on the mend. I’m not confined to a chair yet so gravity gets the best of my noggin too. Anyway glad you’re healing.
Hey Denny;
Glad you are ok, The blogosphere would get quiet if you stayed ill. Something to consider…..
perhaps a bigger helmet for next year?
Won’t need a helmet. My skiing days are over.
Good news!
Glad to hear you’ve mended. And, as I have discovered, “normal” is highly overrated.
Sure glad to hear the good news. You’ll probably outlast me by a good long time, and I’m a bit younger than you. Hope to read your rants for years to come.
Thanks for the update. Your many friends worry about you!
Denny …..
Glad for the good news because I was worried about your last episode. I do not know how many scans you have had, but if you are above 32 Cat Scans like me you will find yourself on a first name basis with some of the CT Techs like I have at Cleveland Clinic. All of mine have been since 2007 & I finally quit counting .Such is the life of a double cancer survivor……Sigh!
Anyway take care my friend ,GOC in Atlanta is my favorite daily read.
It’s good to see that all that head banging hasn’t knocked the grouch out of you. Glad to hear you got back to your normal. Stay well.
Alcohol and bed rest, works every time!
I hope you live a long time, Denny. Then, when you pass away, you will burn in hell for eternity. Cheers!
Fortunately, as an atheist, I don’t believe in hell.
Neither does Pope Francis !
Wonder how you would have done without a helmet? Did the helmet increase the severity of the injury? Oops! shouldn’t ask questions like that.
Glad to hear you’re back to “normal” you grouchy old bastard.
Stay with us awhile longer. It’s going get veddy interesting … but dumb!
Good news for you, and pleasing news for we deni-zens.
Now, just try to maintain your balance please – no more falling about laughing at bad jokes etc
