Didja hear what happened in DC?
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Gavin Clarkson, a recent candidate for New Mexico secretary of state, experienced a one-of-our-50-states-is-missing moment earlier this month when applying for a marriage license in the nation’s capital.
Which state?
Clarkson, who lives in Las Cruces, and his then-fiancée visited the District of Columbia Courts Marriage Bureau on Nov. 20 to apply for a marriage license.
But, once there, the couple encountered a small problem, Clarkson said. The clerk wouldn’t accept Clarkson’s driver’s license – from New Mexico – as proof of his identity. Rather, the clerk, who mistakenly believed Clarkson was a foreign citizen, said he would have to provide an international passport to get the marriage license.
After Clarkson objected, the clerk went to check with a supervisor, who confirmed Clarkson would need a passport.
So not only was the clerk a booger eatin’ moh-ron but so was the supervisor. I wonder what race they were?
“She thought New Mexico was a foreign country,” he said of the clerk. “All the couples behind us waiting in line were laughing.”
That should have given the clerk a clue that she was an idiot.
A very similar thing happened in Atlanta during the Olympics. Someone from New Mexico called to get tickets and the clerk said that she couldn’t send the tickets to New Mexico because it was a foreign country. The guy asked to speak to her supervisor and the supervisor reportedly said, “New Mexico, Old Mexico, we can’t send tickets to a foreign country.”
Name that race.
The guy finally had to give an address to a friend’s house in Arizona.
Have you been to New Mexico lately? It is a foreign country.
New Mexico, California, Arizona, and Texas have ALL been given to Mexico.
If he could have documented that he was a candidate for Secretary of State, then he could have told the clerk he was from the state of Secretary, and they would have approved him.
Hey, give them poor civil servants a break. They were probably educated in Kommiefornia before movin’ to D.C.
Actually they were prolly educated in DC, which despite having one of he highest costs per student is one of the worst school systems in the country.
Denny;
As bad as, or worse than; De-Toilet or Chee-Cago, Chee-Cago – That murderin’ town ???
Just wondering. I do know the stats on those two.
Worse than both.
Detroit is now about fifth-most-dangerous. They’re jailing more black males, and the crime rate falls in winter as well. But next spring? Expect da hoods in da hood to be up’nyoface, fer-shur. The jobs are so plentiful the front porch posse is running out of excuses to stay out of the workforce.
Probably educated in New Mexico, for that matter.
By this time next year, New Mexico may well be a foreign country since the democrats took 100% control of the state this past election.
Ignorance, and stupidity are qualifications for many government workers. Having those traits hides the fact much of what they do is organized stealing, or outright retribution against those that furnish the money for their wages. The same people will fist fight in Walmart for a discount, and never bat any eye when their actions cost some poor SOB thousands to straighten out their incompetent actions.
A less polite society would have “Bureaucrat Day” , where all bureaucrats are forced to pick a number, and the winner is thrown into a pit of alligators.
Good idea Jess – But…
…It’ll never work! Alligators have scruples ya’ know.
Tastes like chicken.
As a former government employee – I must agree on that. As a further note when going through the process of submitting my application for my former job I notice that mentally handicap was consider a bonus point. Spent the next year working harder than hell to get fired!
All in understanding the situation. Since New Mexico will give a drivers license to anyone including illegals, there is a guidance about accepting new Mexico DLs as Legal identification. If you want to apply for certain things, a New Mexico DL is not valid ID and you must present a passport. The clerk probably saw that, but had ZERO clue as to why.
Back in 1990, I applied for a marriage license in NYC, Manhattan to be specific. The idiot clerk insisted on putting Manhattan as the county of residence. Manhattan is a borough, the county name is New York.
I wouldn’t expect people outside of New York State to know the difference, but this idiot worked there. She didn’t know the name of the county she works in.
Gotta love Common Core and No child left behind!!!!!!
That has been a problem from the beginning of New Mexico’s statehood. We have a “New Mexico Magazine” that has a regular section with these stories. One of my favorites is of the class in NM that had pen pals in new england. The north eastern kid taped a penny, nickel and a dime to his page, saying that that is what they spent in their state. The New Mexico kid responded with a quarter, half dollar and a silver dollar on his letter stating that “this is what we spend here”.

Having once held a New Mexico driver’s license – encounter much the same in the North East United States. Then again it appears geography must not have been a subject of importance since those in the DC area think the world revolves around them.
So many assholes ……so little toilet paper ! You got to feel sorry for the mothers of leading liberal Democrats , they have two assholes …..The ones they were born with & the ones they gave birth to.
A friend encountered the same ignorance, but with a store clerk who is insisted Alaska was part of Canada.
