Virginia Wine Tour 2018 Day 1

Ruckersville Virginia

Yesterday my sister BIL, and I drove up to Virginia for our annual tasting of overpriced Virginia wines. But the heck with the tastings, let’s get to the important stuff: food. We always eat lunch one day at Palladio Restaurant at Barboursville Winery. Here is what I ate today along with the wine pairings.

Mele al Forno con Gorgonzola, Radicchio e Nocciole
Roasted Local Apples with Gorgonzola Dolce
Shredded Radicchio, Barboursville Balsamic Vinaigrette & Piedmont Hazelnuts

Barboursville Vineyards Vermentino Reserve 2016

Cannelloni di Mare con Crema Allo Zafferano
Baked Cannelloni
Shrimp and Scallop Mousse, Sautéed Spinach & Saffron Béchamel

Barboursville Vineyards Viognier Reserve 2016

Frittelle di Mele e Cannella
Apple Cinnamon Fritters
Apple Cider Gelato, Apple Sauce & Pecans

Barboursville Vineyards Phileo n.v.

This was a three course meal. I could have ordered a four course meal but there is no way I could have eaten it all. As it is, I’m not eating any supper. Lunch was very, very filling and very, very delicious.

My BIL had the same appetizer as I did but for his main course he got the Grilled Fish of the Day which was Grouper. He got the cheese plate for his third course.

My sister got the House Made Charcuterie for her appetizer, Grilled Beef Strip Loin for her main course, and the Pound Cake for dessert. She didn’t drink any wine with her meal.

Drank more wine in the afternoon, blah, blah, blah.

  1. The three course meal sounds like it was plenty. Now you probably have a few more bottles of good stuff to lay down in the cellar.

  2. Welcome to Virginia Denny! Charlottesville used to be one of my favorite destinations until it took a deep dive into political correctness. If you haven’t seen the UVA campus in person, it’s still worth a short drive.
