Global Warming Alert

Chicago is about to be hit with some record global warming.

One of the coldest air masses in years will envelop the Midwest and the Northeast this week bringing potentially life-threatening low temperatures to the Chicago area that will feel even harsher in tandem with strong winds.

Damn that global warming climate change! Is there anything it can’t do?

In Chicago, the coldest temperatures of the year will arrive midweek. After seeing a high around 34 on Monday at O’Hare International Airport, temperatures will drop to near zero before the end of the day, according to the National Weather Service. By Tuesday night, temperatures are expected to take another plunge, to 23 below zero, flirting with Chicago’s coldest temperature ever: minus 27 on Jan. 20, 1985.

Holy crap! It’s supposed to get cold here in Atlanta tonight but nuttin’ like that.

Temperatures are forecast to inch up to a daytime high of about minus 14 on Wednesday — the first subzero high temperature in five years and the coldest winter high ever recorded in Chicago — before dipping, again, to about minus 21 overnight. The coldest daytime high in Chicago was minus 11 on Christmas Eve 1983.

And, of course, the Acolytes of the Church of AGW will claim that this record cold is the result of global warming.

For younger Chicagoans, the burst of Arctic air set to overtake the city this week could be one of the coldest days of their lives. For Generation Z, this week’s predicted low temperatures have only two rivals: minus 16 on Jan. 6, 2014, and minus 19 on Feb. 3, 1996.

The lows Tuesday and Wednesday could break records set in 1966. They’ll also feel much worse with wind gusts up to 30 mph, which will make it feel as low as negative 50 degrees, according to the weather service.

Ahhhh! 1966. I remember it well. I was attending Electronics Technician A School at Great Lakes Naval Training Center during the winter of 1966. I lived off base in Waukegan. Gawd it was cold! I remember a few days it did not get above zero degrees. The couple in the other apartment in our building were from Oregon. One morning their car wouldn’t start. Turned out he used 30 weight oil. I got to help him dig the oil out through the drain hole using a coat hangar.

That was a miserable winter. We had car problems during part of it. I got to walk to the bus stop in downtown Waukegan with the wind coming off the Lake. Brutal! I also remember my wife not enjoying me using her boobs as hand warmers when I got home. And you wonder why I’m divorced.

As I said, Atlanta isn’t going to escape. The cold is hitting us along with rain that may change to snow. Fortunately, we won’t get much and it will prolly be gone tomorrow night. All we need is some bad weather for Super Bowl week. The last time Atlanta had a Super Bowl we had an ice storm.

  1. February 3, 1996 – Chicago. -19F. That was the day that I found myself lying flat on the ground trying to pull a large rock out of a post hole that I had dug for the deck I was building for a customer. It was noticeably warmer in the posthole than above ground. That was the day that I decided that I didn’t want to keep building decks for the rest of my life.

    • My home town noosepaper reported yesterday that a local food kitchen (which was to open today) put off that opening due to deep snow. If that’s not fair-weather liberalism, then what is?

      • Sure sounds like a perfect opportunity for the hungry/homeless to make some money and earn their food. Give or rent ’em some shovels and let ’em shovel around the food kitchen and any nearby businesses or homes to earn some bucks.

        • I live in a plasticene all-one-style-brick-storefronts kind of town where liberal jerkoffs are in oversupply and the actual homeless problem far less than imagined. One soup kitchen closed in town and this newest effort is just more won’t-accept-reality on the part of the libs here in town. They’re assholes.

The Salvation Army feeding indigents has reported that they are not feeding as many as before — the presumption being this is due to Trump’s economy.

That last part, not one of their competition dares say it might be true. If America succeeds, they fail.

    • I live in NE SD and our forecast low for tonight is -35 with wind chills as low as -60. We don’t need a wall to keep illegals out.

  2. Grew up in that kinda weather, ’bout a hundred miles south of Chicago.

I was in GLakes in ’76, which was one cold-ass winter. Navy housing didn’t have garages, only carports, which don’t offer any protection whatever from wind and cold, just from gentle rain and sun.

Got some trustworthy long-range forecasts sayin a true deep freeze was comin, so I built me a li’l insulated pad with 4 heating elements in it to slide under the oil pan on particularly cold nights. More than 4 woulda tripped the breaker on that wimpy li’l light socket in the carport.

When a really low overnite temp was predicted, I’d take the battery out of the ol’ Chevy and set it on a slab of cardboard by the kitchen door. Put that boy back in the car next mornin and she’d crank right up, no problem.

Let it warm up for a while ’til the heater crossover cut in, then drive to work . . . admirin all the cars with hoods up in carports and steam risin
from others alongside the road from cracked hoses and burst radiators. Gave a Legal Beagle 0-5 a ride one day when his car wouldn’t fire. He bought me a dozen donuts.

I gave half of ’em to the Captain’s secretary staff, right down the passageway from my office. Nice to be on good terms with those ladies.

  3. Went through Boot Camp at Great Lakes starting in February of ’73 and I was glad that most of winter was gone. Still cold enough for me, and I stayed there for Machinist Mate A School.
We were using the outdoor pool by the time I left.

  4. Was living in Crystal Lake, Ill in 1985, spent the day wonder just what in the hell made me think moving from South Texas to work in Chicago was such a great idea!

  5. I did my recruit training in GLakes in Sept. 74. Lucky to have gone to San Diego before the real Winter started. Global Warming, Global Cooling, the Left’s solution is always the same, give us your money.

  6. I did IC A School there a year before you. One night we were supposed to get a really heavy snow storm and we were alerted to the possibility of catching “snow shoveling duty.” Sometime during mid-watch I was awakened and told I had caught the duty. I was grumbling and groaning and the Duty PO said “come on Smith, quit complaining.” I’m not Smith. He racked below me. I pointed at his rack and said “that is Smith” and went back to sleep. Come reveille Smith was wet, disheveled and cranky and said to me “you’ll never guess what happened to me last night.”

  7. Yeah the Weather Bureau is in deep dodo …..They do not know what to do or say any more because the weather refuses to co-operate with the Global Warming Agenda embraced by Liberal climatologists, Weather Bureau personal, the Democrat Party & gullible nitwits.
Last year here in Erie our local weather bureau people stationed at the Airport kept track every day throughout the winter & recorded daily snow fall totals & published the ongoing totals every day in the local paper. At the end of winter Erie had received 199 inche`s of snow, the second highest total ever recorded at any Weather Bureau station in Ohio, Pennsylvania or New York along Lake Erie.
WELL! …….This did not fit the Global Warming Mantra , s0oooooo Office Armchair Weather Bureau Climatologists not from this part of the country consulted their Computer forecasts , Global Warming data & projections. These infallible experts determined Erie did not actually receive 199 inches of snow because there must have been an error in tabulating daily snow fall totals when transferring that data to the total accumulation for the winter.
How much of an error in adding the daily totals to achieve the 199 inch total was there ?…….Some 34 inches !!!!! That alone is a laughable conclusion just at face value.
Now bear in mind those people who maintain the weather records & record the data at the airport are Weather Bureau Professionals & have been doing this job for decades.
Apparently the Weather Bureau was comfortable throwing their own people under the bus to explain why the Snow Fall total had to be wrong.
The Ironic element in this fiasco is there are a substantial number of local people who also keep track of weather data more or less as a hobby but who are often cited as local volunteers to help gage how the results of snow fall or rain total s vary across the regionas well as daily temperatures.
They all say the 199 inch total was correct ……In fact once you get farther away from the lake into what we call the snow belt totals far exceed 199 inches. Apparently being stupid & unable to add numbers correctly is a local thing since every here came to the same conclusion.
The Weather Bureau bombards us all daily with made up statements to scare people. Low Temperatures are not bad enough ,,,,,got to factor in wind chill .
Winter weather is not just snowstorms ,,,,,,we have Alberta Clippers , Polar Vortex`s & the dreaded North Easterners.
Speaking of Global warming, here in Erie it must be an embarrassment t0 the Weather Bureau Staff at the Airport who record daily Temperatures the total number of officially certified days the temperature has ever reached 100 degrees remains at…..(1) That`s right folks just one day , one time, one happening since records have been kept starting in the early 1800`s.
I will offer a solution to this ………Since we have a Wind Chill Factor to scare people, lets create a Global warming Index to provide the ability to certify the temperature really feels much much hotter then what actually is recorded. People being gullible ,It would be quite easy to use creative weather forecast adjustments to advance the Global Warming Agenda.
Me, I remain skeptical of anything the Weather Bureau says.

  8. I’m sure we’ll be seeing on our Chicago news how the murder rate decreased this week, and the police will be taking credit for it. With Rahm as the mayor, you never let a good crisis go to waste.

  9. How ironic is it that the very people who mistake regional weather
patterns for average global temperatures are now calling climate
change skeptics morons for making the same assumption? The
short term projection is that the Upper Midwest and Canada are
going to get crap-hammered with temperatures and wind chill
factors lower than the average temperature in Antarctica. But then
these idiots are so stupid they are unaware that Antarctica is in the
    height of Summer right now.

    • Today`s BS Weather Bureau lead story for Erie is we are experiencing the lowest temperatures Erie has ever recorded.
Today`s low temperature was (-1) degree…….Last year it was (-18). degrees which tied the local all time official low temperature record. OOPS!

    • Here in Green Bay I had to scrape ice off the INSIDE of the car windows today. I think I’ll go to Antarctica for Spring Break this year.

    • The Governor is a stupid dipshit……Booze has alcohol in it,this makes it human antifreeze . Should reopen the taverns for the welfare of the people.
