Tax Day

Another year, another tax day. Since I’m a SRF©, I have to write two checks. One is for my quarterly estimated taxes and the other is for the taxes I owe because I did not pay enough in withholding or quarterly estimated taxes. And, if I didn’t pay enough during the year, I have to pay a penalty. Bah!

One of the biggest frauds the gummint perpetrates on us is withholding. How many people look at their pay stub to see how much the gummint takes out in income taxes and FICA? Because the gummint takes out more than it should, thus getting an interest free loan, people at the end of a year get a refund and act like it’s a gift from the gummint. It’s your own freaking money doofus!

Neal Boortz used to put up a post every tax day where he would ask his readers to ask a friend or coworker how much money they paid in taxes. He predicted that the reply would be, “I didn’t pay anything. I got money back.”

That’s the beauty of withholding. The gummint takes more than it should and then gives some of it back during tax season and the citizens think the gummint is giving them money.

Uh oh! Looks like the Fake News Media messed up again. They’ve been saying for the last year that the Trump tax cuts weren’t really tax cuts and refunds would be down this year. They were wrong. Not only did people get more take home pay because of the drop in withholding, but their refunds are up. There goes that narrative.

Remember, the Dimocrats wanted everyone to think that the only ones getting tax cuts were the eeeee-vil rich. Speaker Blinkey called the Trump tax cuts “crumbs” and of course the propagandists in the Fake News Media were out there carrying her water. Now that people are getting their refund checks they see that the Fake News Media lied once again.

But back to withholding. If the gummint didn’t withhold taxes and everyone had to write a check to the gummint on April 15 there would be a huge tax revolt in this country. Just think what would happen if everyone had to pay taxes the week before an election. I wonder how many Dimocrats would get elected?

  1. worrying about getting elected would be the least of their concerns – rope, tree, chair…
Not to say there wouldn’t be a large number of repukes standing in that line by the tree.

  2. I have always believed, taxes are the bribe we pay government to leave us alone. The tragedy? They won’t stay bought.

      • “When you bought him, he stayed bought. I’ve always admired that about him.”

Ah, Willie. What with $harpton and Grea$eball Al, I’d forgotten all about him.

Back a century ago, Our Senator from Standard Oil” was not a pejorative, one of many when you knew beyond doubt where YOUR treacherous sonofabitch stood. Dependability, by Heaven!

  3. In 1966 I worked for a company that paid in cash. You would get in line and at window #1 they would pay you in cash for the hours you had worked based on your time card, then at window #2 they would tell you how much of your money you had to turn over for the state and federal taxes you ‘had’ to pay based on the government ‘scale’. Made all of the workers unhappy and increased calls to representatives. Program lasted about two months and the company was forced to go back to witholding or face fines and jail.

  4. Reagan floated an idea that we should receive a monthly bill like we do for utilities and credit cards. That way we could evaluate whether we were getting out money’s worth!

  5. Normally, my payment or refund is under $15. Last year it was under $2… But this year they screwed up my math and I overpaid by about $200. Fuckers.

  6. Philosophers over the ages have understood that in order for you to have liberty you must have property rights. You must be able to own what you work for and save it, use it, trade it or give it away.
For the first 120 years or so universities, hospitals and charity were provided by the private sector: Mostly the rich. (Need I name them?)
The 16th Amendment gave the Federal Government the right to take away your property in a discriminatory manner. Prior its passing the income tax had been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
Under the Constitution as written we had a flat tax.
Everything that the Democrats do is designed to chip away at our property rights.
George Orwell said, “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.
By the time the millennials find that they no longer have liberty any reference to it will be gone.

  7. Not only are people getting more of their confiscated money back than before, but withholding rates changed on 1/1/18 so that the gooberment confiscated less than before 1/1/18. But the S4B’s don’t remember that.

  8. Real tax math — compare couple making $100k and filing jointly with standard deductions:
    2017 — $12.7k deduction and $8.1k exemptions, taxable = $79.2k, tax bill = $11,271
    2018 — $24k deduction, taxable = $76k, tax bill = $8,736

Savings = $2,535, because tax in 2018 is 77.5% of 2017’s tax bill.
